Fantasy Analysis
Smith had a solid debut season in the NFL with 14 sacks in the regular season, the second-most by a rookie in NFL history. Smith, the No. 7 overall pick in last year's draft, had two sacks in the postseason as well. Possibly the league's Defensive Rookie of the Year, Smith doesn't want to tarnish his record with the DUI charge. He's subject to possible fine or suspension if he is found to have violated the NFL's personal conduct policy. Otherwise, he'll be a solid option in IDP formats next year. (Updated 01/28/2012).
05/21/2012 17:02 When comes to pass rush, left side is less left out now
The conventional wisdom had a bulkier end anchoring the left side of the defense with the pass-rush star on the right. Len Pasquarelli says Mario Williams' request to man the left side in Buffalo shows changing times.
05/18/2012 11:03 Aldon Smith says 49ers weren't targeting Ben Roethlisberger's ankle last season
Last week, Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger hinted that the 49ers might have targeted his bum ankle during a Week 15 matchup. San Francisco's Aldon Smith says that wasn't the case, noting "The quarterback, he controls the game. So if he got hit, it happens."

05/08/2012 12:24 Report: Seahawks' Bruce Irvin pick blew up Jets-Steelers draft-day trade
According to a report from the NFL Network, the Steelers and Jets had a draft-day trade in place so Pittsburgh could move up and grab David DeCastro. But when the Seahawks decided to take Bruce Irvin, the Jets bailed out of the deal.
The 49ers made Missouri's Aldon Smith their top pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, and he lived up to the billing. Smith had a solid debut season in the NFL with 14 sacks in the regular season, the second-most by a rookie in NFL history. Smith, the No. 7 overall pick in last year's draft, had two sacks in the postseason as well. He also added 41 total tackles (35 solo), and he had a fumble recovery. Those numbers are great but they don't quite translate to Fantasy because he's a linebacker, and typically the most productive linebackers in Fantasy rack up tons of tackles. In leagues that don't count tackles, Smith is awesome, but otherwise consider him more of a quality reserve Fantasy option rather than a starter. (Updated 4/25/12)
