New coach Caldwell talks up Joseph Fauria
by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(3/27/14) Calling him a "unique, physical specimen," new Lions coach Jim Caldwell said he expects to see more from second-year tight end Joseph Fauria in 2014. Fauria made waves as a rookie last year catching seven touchdowns (including three in the same game) on just 18 catches.

"We've got the tall guy who can get down in the goal line area we can do something with, but not only that, I think you'll see Joe's going to be pretty good out in the field, too," Caldwell said from the NFL Owners Meetings. "[T]here will be some things he can do every down, there will be some things, obviously, he can do on passing downs as well. ... Do I think that he's one of those guys you can put in a bunch of point-of-attack runs and heavy run-oriented situations? I think you're misusing him in terms of his talent level. I mean the guy is athletic, he can run, he can jump, and to take him and pidgeon hole him into one area, I think, would be unfair. I do think he's talented enough to play on every down but I do also think that he's a specialized talent that you have to make certain that you put him in the best possible position in order to be successful."

Fauria will battle for playing time this summer; the team re-signed fellow tight end Brandon Pettigrew, who might end up seeing far more playing time but not necessarily as many targets.

Joseph Fauria ticketed for bigger role
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(2/26/14) Lions tight end Joseph Fauria, a 6-foot-7 red-zone threat as a rookie, should have a bigger role in the 2014 offense, general manager Martin Mayhew told MLive.com. "I think Matthew [Stafford] had a comfort level with him in the red area more so than in the field," Mayhew said.

"And then the offensive coordinator feeling comfortable to create opportunities for him to get the ball. So, it'll be a process. He certainly has the talent level to suggest he can be more productive in the field than he has been."

Seven of Fauria's 18 catches went for touchdowns. If the Lions don't re-sign Brandon Pettigrew, Fauria could see a major spike in playing time. Fauria played fewer than a quarter of the snaps last season due to his weakness as a blocker, the report said.

Add Joseph Fauria to your deep TE sleeper list
by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(2/13/14) It's early, and the Lions could always move in another direction, but there's an indication that Joseph Fauria could emerge as Detroit's primary tight end in 2014.

This is especially relevant since the guy calling the Lions' plays, Joe Lombardi, is a former Saints assistant who will use the Saints playbook as a basis for the one he'll call plays from in Detroit. And you know who the Saints tight end is, right?

Fauria has intrigued me because of his size. I'm not sure if he has the pure athleticism and speed Graham has but after scoring seven times on 18 catches last year as an undrafted rookie there's clearly a role for him at least in the red zone. Plus if he's out there along with Calvin Johnson, Reggie Bush and whoever lines up at receiver then he'll be a tough guy to cover.

I've added Fauria to the bottom of my sleeper tight ends list and would consider a late-round pick on him in Fantasy drafts.

Could Joseph Fauria play the role of Jimmy Graham?
by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(2/13/14) New Lions offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi says he plans to use the Saints playbook as a starting point for Detroit's new offense.

Does that mean second-year tight end Joe Fauria could play in the same kind of capacity as Jimmy Graham in New Orleans? That's what the 6-foot-7 tight end is aiming for

"I have a similar background to (Graham) with basketball and similar height and the way we play," Fauria said. "I'm not calling myself Jimmy Graham, but I strive to have the kind of production he has. I think I can contribute very similarly to how he has with the Saints."

Fauria told his trainer he wants to fine-tune "everything" this season and has already had a number of talks with his position coach, Ron Prince, about improving everything from his skill set to his playing time.

The Lions' official team website notes that if the team doesn't re-sign Brandon Pettigrew then Fauria's chances of being a contributor go up significantly.

Lions wide receivers do little Week 17
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(12/29/13) Lions pass catchers Kevin Ogletree, Nate Burleson and Joseph Fauria didn't play a big role Week 17.

Ogletree led the way for the club, picking up 75 yards on five catches. Burleson also caught five passes, and gained 64 yards. Fauria caught three passes for 20 yards.
