Joseph Fauria wants to compete for TE job
by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(5/22/14) Lions tight end Joseph Fauria understands why the team drafted Eric Ebron with a first-round pick. He just wants a chance to compete with him for the starting job, the Detroit Free Press reports.
Joseph Fauria's Fantasy stock slides
by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(5/13/14) The drafting of Eric Ebron crushed any hope Joseph Fauria had of being a dangerous Fantasy option week in and week out in the Lions' new offense, which is based on what the Saints have been doing and includes a lot of tight end elements. Fauria did have seven touchdowns over 18 catches at 11.5 yards per grab last season and could still make some noise in the red zone but Ebron figures to dominate the playing time. Fauria no longer is worth taking in a typical Fantasy draft.
Joseph Fauria tumbles down Lions depth chart
by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(5/9/14) Joseph Fauria was one of our Fantasy sleepers this summer ... until Eric Ebron took his place. Actually, Ebron has more upside than Fauria, which hurts to say since Fauria seems like a fun-loving guy, but Fantasy can be cold and cruel.

The Lions persist that Fauria will still have a role in the offense per the Detroit Free Press, but it could be limited to the red zone and thus keep him off the field for much of the time. Fantasy owners shouldn't draft him.

The Lions offense is going to be awesome
by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(5/8/14) So it appeared for weeks the Lions wanted to move up to select receiver Sammy Watkins from Clemson. Maybe they didn't offer enough to jump up to No. 4 like the Bills, who drafted Watkins. Or maybe they were hoping if they stayed put at No. 10 that an elite player would land in their lap.

That's what happened on Thursday night when they drafted tight end Eric Ebron from North Carolina.

Think about this offense now. Matthew Stafford, Calvin Johnson, Golden Tate, Reggie Bush, Joique Bell and now Ebron. The only downside about this pick is Joseph Fauria loses all sleeper appeal, but we can live with that. He'll still score a few touchdowns, but Ebron could be a star.

You can't double cover him because of Johnson and Tate, and new offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi comes from New Orleans, where Jimmy Graham was a dominant force. The Lions wanted an upgrade at tight end, and Ebron is the answer.

He should be considered a potential starter in all Fantasy leagues with a late-round pick, and he's a late first-round selection in rookie-only drafts. The Lions are going to be fun to watch in 2014.

New coach Caldwell talks up Joseph Fauria
by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(3/27/14) Calling him a "unique, physical specimen," new Lions coach Jim Caldwell said he expects to see more from second-year tight end Joseph Fauria in 2014. Fauria made waves as a rookie last year catching seven touchdowns (including three in the same game) on just 18 catches.

"We've got the tall guy who can get down in the goal line area we can do something with, but not only that, I think you'll see Joe's going to be pretty good out in the field, too," Caldwell said from the NFL Owners Meetings. "[T]here will be some things he can do every down, there will be some things, obviously, he can do on passing downs as well. ... Do I think that he's one of those guys you can put in a bunch of point-of-attack runs and heavy run-oriented situations? I think you're misusing him in terms of his talent level. I mean the guy is athletic, he can run, he can jump, and to take him and pidgeon hole him into one area, I think, would be unfair. I do think he's talented enough to play on every down but I do also think that he's a specialized talent that you have to make certain that you put him in the best possible position in order to be successful."

Fauria will battle for playing time this summer; the team re-signed fellow tight end Brandon Pettigrew, who might end up seeing far more playing time but not necessarily as many targets.
