David Nelson has chance to start
by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(6/24/14) Jets receiver David Nelson has the chance to be the starter opposite Eric Decker, reports the New York Post.

Nelson, who came to the Jets four weeks into last season after they were hit with injuries, finished 2013 with 36 catches (second on the team) for 423 yards and two touchdowns.

This year, Nelson "appears to be the favorite" for the No. 2 job judging from OTA and minicamp snaps, per the report.

The starting job is not guaranteed for Nelson. He is battling Stephen Hill and draft picks Jalen Saunders, Shaq Evans and Quincy Enunwa. But Nelson has seniority on those receivers, which could give him an edge.

Jets studs and duds from offseason work
by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(6/20/14) The Jets have finished up their minicamp and are off until training camp. With that in mind, the Newark Star-Ledger broke down some studs and duds from all the offseason work.

The studs include receivers Stephen Hill and David Nelson, offensive lineman Oday Aboushi, cornerback Dexter McDougle and safety Calvin Pryor .

The duds were quarterbacks Michael Vick and Matt Simms and offensive lineman Willie Colon.

David Nelson back after being quarantined
by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(6/9/14) Jets receiver David Nelson missed the first week of OTAs with "a bug" that he picked up when he was bit by a mosquito in Haiti doing charity work, reports the New York Post. Nelson had a 104-degree fever and strep throat. The Jets told him to stay away and get better.

"I was quarantined," Nelson said.

He returned this week to practice and will now compete for the No. 2 receiver job opposite Eric Decker.

David Nelson: I didn't see Davone Bess struggles coming
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(1/30/14) Jets wide receiver David Nelson was bombarded with comments from former Browns teammates before the teams met in December about the strange behavior exhibited by fellow wideout Davone Bess.

Nelson, who was waived by the Browns before the season, had not noticed anything unusual about Bess as a teammate.

"I had tremendous respect for Bess," Nelson told ESPN. "When I was there, our lockers were next to each other's. He was excited to be there. I found him to be great for Josh (Gordon). He worked hard. Josh saw that. Everybody saw that.

"The stuff I heard (before the game) was all uncharacteristic of things I'd seen when I was there. He ended up leading the league in drops (he was actually second with 14) and he'd never done that before. Everything that happened was uncharacteristic of him, so you know something must have happened to him."

Bess was later placed on the non-football injury list due to his personal problems, which was followed by his well-chronicled bizarre behavior that led to his arrest.

Jets receivers show up for final game
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(12/29/13) The Jets actually got some solid production out of the wide receiver corps Sunday, in a 20-7 win over the Dolphins in Week 17.

David Nelson led the team with 66 yards on five receptions, but the team also got contribution from Jeremy Kerley and Santonio Holmes. Holmes finished with 41 yards on three receptions, while Kerley hauled in five passes for 40 yards.

Neither player reached even 600 yards this season in the Jets' woeful passing offense, with Kerley leading the team with 523 yards. Holmes finished with 456 yards and Nelson adding 423 yards.
