Colts likely to be 'very proactive' extending 2012 draft class

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(2/20/15) The Colts are expected to be "very proactive" in working out long-term extensions for members of the 2012 draft class, CBSSports.com NFL Insider Jason La Canfora repots.

Wide receiver T.Y. Hilton is expected to be the first player approached after catching 82 passes for 1,345 yards and seven touchdowns in 2014. Andrew Luck, Dwayne Allen and Coby Fleener are three more players who figure to be involved in the team's longterm plans.

Duron Carter: Playing with Luck 'will set my career in motion'

by Larry Hartstein | Senior Analyst
(2/3/15) New Colts wideout Duron Carter got his first exposure to Andrew Luck during Pro Bowl practices. Carter's dad, Hall of Fame receiver and ESPN analyst Cris Carter, took Luck with the No. 1 overall pick.

“That was my first time seeing (Luck) and my first time really hearing about him,” Duron Carter told the team's website.

“Even just from my dad, hearing how Andrew handles people in the huddle, and just around the hotel, he’s just a great guy. Just to be a part of that and be around him I think will really help me and set my career in motion, where no one else could.”

Carter, who starred in the CFL the past two seasons, watched the Colts' loss to the Patriots in the AFC title game and thought he could flourish playing with Luck and a receiving corps led by T.Y. Hilton. He noted New England hounded Hilton with multiple defensive backs.

“I’m sitting there watching the playoff game and I said, ‘I felt like I could be out there and I could help in one of those situations,’ Carter said.

“Just on an every-down basis, me being able to go out there, winning one-on-one matchups when it’s called on me. A lot of teams do go man-to-man and pressure Luck, the only way you can beat that, for me, is to win those one-on-one opportunities with T.Y. over there.”

Carter, 23, who bounced from college to college due to off-field issues, realizes he has a golden opportunity. With Reggie Wayne unsure whether he'll return and Hakeem Nicks an unrestricted free agent, Indy could enter 2015 with Hilton, Donte Moncrief and Carter as its top three wideouts.

“It’s always been my dream to play in the NFL,” Carter said.

“Through decisions I made prior when I was younger, I hindered that opportunity. Getting into the CFL that was my motivation the whole time, every play, every snap, every catch, was I wanted to go to the NFL. Now that I’m here, my next goal is to make the Colts roster.”

Patriots get the best of Colts' Hilton in two matchups this season

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(1/19/15) In two losses against the Patriots this season, including Sunday's 45-7 loss in the AFC title game, Colts wide receiver T.Y. Hilton was bottled up offensively. Hilton had just three catches for 24 yards in a 42-20 loss Nov. 16 and had one catch for 36 yards Sunday.

"Coach (Bill) Belichick, he did the same thing, had the same game plan -- Kyle Arrington on me, (safety Devin McCourty) over the top," Hilton said, per ESPN. "They took away everything. When I tried to go across the middle, they had the linebackers drop. The linebackers hit me to try to disrupt me. It pretty much was the same game plan as last time. They did a pretty good job of taking me away."

Patriot coach Bill Belichick praised Arrington's effort against Hilton, who is headed to the Pro Bowl after totaling 82 catches for 1,345 yards and seven touchdowns during the regular season.

"You know Kyle really stepped up; played T.Y. good," Belichick said. "T.Y. is a great receiver. He’s got outstanding speed and quickness, and he’s a tough guy to cover on all routes: short, intermediate, deep. He had a great catch on the sideline dragging his feet. It was a perfect throw and a great catch. But that’s what it’s like playing against them. But Kyle competed really well. He jammed, and he and Devin did a real good job on T.Y."

Colts' Hilton, Fleener and Allen held in check on Sunday

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(1/18/15) The Colts had no standout receivers during the AFC Championship game against the Patriots.

T.Y. Hilton actually led the team in receiving with just 36 yards. All of his production came on one catch. Hilton tied for the team lead with six targets, but just couldn't convert most of the time.

Coby Fleener managed to haul in three catches, gaining 30 yards. He was targeted four times, finishing second on the team.

Dwayne Allen tied with Hilton for targets, but was able to convert more often. He led the team with four receptions, but gained just 30 yards.

T.Y. Hilton catches fewer than half his targets again

by Larry Hartstein | Senior Analyst
(1/11/15) Colts receiver T.Y. Hilton caught four of nine targets for 72 yards in Sunday's playoff win at Denver, the second straight week he's secured fewer than half his targets. He's hauled in 10 of 23 targets for 175 yards and no scores in the playoffs.

Hilton, whose longest gain went for 23 yards, visits the Patriots in next Sunday's AFC Championship Game. He caught three passes for 24 yards in the Week 11 meeting, a 42-20 New England win.
