Patriots WR Julian Edelman uncertain if he'll be ready by opener
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
|(8/25/15) Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman spoke to the media Tuesday for the first time since hurting his leg Aug. 2.
Although, Edelman didn't reveal any good news, as he is uncertain if he will be ready for the season opener against the Steelers.
"Ask Bill [Belichick]. I’m taking it day by day and I think I’m 10 seconds better than the last 10 seconds, so we’re good," Edelman said, per ESPN.com. "Any time you’re not able to go out there and play it’s difficult, but it’s part of the game. I’m just working hard, doing everything I can each and every day to improve myself each and every day."
Edelman totaled 92 catches for 972 yards and four touchdowns in 14 games last season. He had 49 catches that went for first downs.
Patriots' Edelman won't answer if he had concussion in Super Bowl
|by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com|
|(2/14/15) Much was made of whether Patriots receiver Julian Edelman sustained a concussion or not during New England's 28-24 Super Bowl win over the Seahawks.
In an interview with the New York Times that published Saturday, Edelman did nothing to quell the speculation as to rather he had one or didn't. Citing team policy, Edelman would not answer if he was diagnosed with a concussion or not.
Asked if he underwent testing, Edelman did give an answer.
"I went through all the protocols," Edelman said.
Edelman took a hit to the head in the fourth quarter from Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor. Though he appeared dazed, he stayed in the game. After scoring that series, Edelman eventually caught what would be the game-winning three-yard touchdown with 2:06 left in the game.
Edelman finished the Super Bowl with nine receptions for 109 yards and a touchdown.
Report: Patriots' Edelman passed concussion test during Super Bowl
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
|(2/2/15) Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman passed a concussion test during the Super Bowl on Sunday, allowing him to continue to play, a source told the Associated Press. Edelman appeared groggy after he was leveled by Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor after a 21-yard completion with just under 11 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.
After the offensive series ended, Edelman was checked on the New England sideline by medical staff and an independent neurologist and cleared to return, the source said.
Following the 28-24 win, Edelman said, "We're not allowed to talk about injuries." Coach Bill Belichick also chose to dance around the topic Monday.
"I'm a coach, and I had a deal with our trainers and doctors," he told reporters during a press conference Monday. "They're the medical experts and they don't call plays, and I'm the coach and I don't get involved in the medical part. When they clear players to play, then if we want to play them we play them. The plays we call, I don't have to get approval from them. It's a good setup."
Report: Patriots' Edelman may have suffered concussion Sunday
|by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com|
|(2/2/15) While Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman did catch the winning touchdown in Super Bowl, whether he sustained a concussion earlier in the game is unclear, reports SI.com.
When asked after the game if he possibly suffered a concussion, Edelman would not comment on his status.
"We're not allowed to talk about injuries," he said.
During the fourth quarter, Edelman appeared to take a hit to the head from Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor, but Edelman remained in the game.
Patriots' Julian Edelman goes over 100 yards
|by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com|
|(2/1/15) Patriots wideout Julian Edelman went over 100 yards in Super Bowl 49.
Edelman was one of Tom Brady's biggest weapons during the contest. He tied for the team lead with 12 targets. Edelman hauled in nine of those targets, leading the team with 109 yards. He also scored what would wind up being the game-winning touchdown with two minutes left in the game.
|Patriots receiver Julian Edelman should still be a standout Fantasy option even with quarterback Tom Brady suspended for the first four games of the season. We just hope he's not terrible with Jimmy Garoppolo as the starter while Brady is out. Edelman is the type of receiver who should help Garoppolo succeed. For the past two years, Edelman has been among the best slot receivers in the NFL. He followed up his standout 2013 performance (105 catches for 1,056 yards and six touchdowns) with another solid campaign in 2014 (92 catches for 972 yards and four touchdowns), and he likely would have finished with consecutive seasons of 100-plus catches and 1,000-plus yards had he played in the final two games of the regular season (concussion). The evidence is there of what Edelman can do on a yearly basis. He enters this season as a No. 2 Fantasy receiver in all leagues, with his value higher in PPR formats, even with the quarterback upheaval now happening in New England. Once Brady is back on the field we should see plenty of production from Edelman again, and he's worth looking into beginning in Round 5.
