Kuechly named defensive ROY: Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly was named Defensive Rookie of the Year by the Associated Press Saturday. Kuechly led the league with 164 tackles to go along with two interceptions and a sack in his first season in the league. "He is everything we thought he would be and more," head coach Ron Rivera said. "He has a bright future here with us, and you feel very good about him leading our defense." (Updated 2/2/13) |

| Fantasy Analysis |
Kuechly was rewarded for his breakout season Saturday and appears to be on his way to becoming the leader of Carolina's defense. The 21-year-old out of Boston College averaged 10.3 tackles per game in 2012 and should be viewed as an elite Fantasy linebacker in IDP formats, worth drafting with a mid-round pick. He should be drafted among the first IDP options in 2013. (Updated 2/2/13). |
| So just how good was Luke Kuechly's rookie year? Well, he led the team in tackles with 164 and picked up a sack, two interceptions and eight passes defensed in the process. In Fantasy leagues where tackles count a full point Kuechly was better than any Individual Defensive Player except for J.J. Watt. While this leaves quite a bit to live up to, there's a pretty good chance Kuechly will be just as effective for years to come. Expect him to be taken among the first 10 IDPs on Draft Day, potentially as an early- to mid-round pick by an owner banking on another 150-plus tackle season. (Updated 4/26/13) |
