Prioritizing waiver-wire picks at wide receiver

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10/21/14) In his Week 8 waiver-wire column, Jamey Eisenberg takes a look at the wide receivers most worth adding ahead of this week's games.

The list is headlined by new Seahawks' No. 1 Doug Baldwin (33 percent owned), with Odell Beckham (68 percent) of the Giants, Davante Adams (21 percent) of the Packers, Allen Robinson (34 percent) of the Jaguars and Brandon LaFell (56 percent) of the Patriots rounding out the remainder of the top five.

If you need to drop someone to make room for any pickups this week, he also recommends possibly parting ways with the Vikings' Cordarrelle Patterson (81 percent) or the Steelers' Markus Wheaton (35 percent).

Martavis Bryant a threat to Markus Wheaton

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(10/21/14) Wide receiver Markus Wheaton didn't impress through the first six weeks of the season, so the Steelers saw fit to give someone else a chance Week 7 against Houston. Active for the first time this season, Martavis Bryant had as productive a day as any pass catcher not named Antonio Brown or Le'Veon Bell, hauling in two passes for 40 yards, including a 35-yarder in the back of the end zone for a touchdown. His five targets were third-most on the team, and no one after him had more than two.

That includes Wheaton, who was among those with two targets, going without a catch. He actually played 48 percent of the Steelers' snaps compared to Bryant's 34 percent, which makes his lack of production even more discouraging. Considering he's been up around 80 percent most of the year, he may be in danger of being overtaken.

Of course, Wheaton probably wouldn't disappear completely, and because Antonio Brown is still the go-to guy in the Steelers passing game, Bryant probably wouldn't have the opportunity for big numbers in his place. But in leagues deep enough that Wheaton is relevant, Bryant is now, too.

Steelers get offensive contributions

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(10/21/14) The Steelers got a variety of offensive contributions in their 30-23 win over the Texans. Among them, running back LeGarrette Blount ran seven times for 9 yards and caught an 8-yard pass. Running back Dri Archer carried twice for 7 yards.

Tight end Heath Miller secured his only target for 13 yards, while wideout Markus Wheaton was targeted twice without a catch. They'll all play the Colts in Week 8.

Roethlisberger: WR Wheaton still adjusting to speed of NFL game

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10/15/14) Wide receiver Markus Wheaton hasn't been much of a factor in the Steelers' passing game since totaling six catches for 97 yards in the season opener. Though, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said the second-year receiver is still adjusting to the speed of the NFL game.

"In college you can kind of wait for a receiver to come out of a break before you throw it," Roethlisberger said, per ESPN. "Here you have to throw it before they come out of their break. He’s working hard to make sure he gets the proper depth, to get his hands around with his head and make the play. I know he will."

Wheaton made a vow after Sunday's loss against the Browns that he would show up early to practice to watch film with Roethlisberger. He did that Wednesday.

"I think that speaks volumes about him wanting to get in there, wanting to learn, to be corrected," Roethlisberger said. "I broke down every single pass play that he did and told him what I thought he did right and what he did wrong. He’s the type of guy that’s going to take that and make him better. I have all the confidence in the world that Markus will come out and be better than ever."

Steelers WR Markus Wheaton ineffective in loss to Browns

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10/12/14) The good news for Steelers wideout Markus Wheaton is that he was targeted 11 times Sunday in Cleveland. The bad news is that he only grabbed four for 33 yards.

Wheaton gathered in a six-yarder on the team's first play from scrimmage and was then blanked until the fourth. He was plagued by drops and misfires most of the game.

With just five receptions for 50 yards in the last two games combined, Wheaton will attempt to turn it around against the Texans next Monday night.
