Markus Wheaton catches five balls Thursday
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(9/12/14) Steelers wide receiver Markus Wheaton caught five balls Thursday against the Ravens.

Wheaton gained 38 receiving yards on eight targets. He also received two carries for 22 yards. Wheaton's big drive came just before halftime. He picked up three catches for 29 yards on the drive. He wasn't much of a factor during the second half, catching just one pass for 11 yards. Though the performance wasn't great, Wheaton did receive the second-most targets on the club.

Wheaton will take on the Panthers Week 3.

Stud Steelers ready to go Week 2
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(9/11/14) The Steelers will go into Week 2 with all of their stud offensive players.

A number of important players entered the week listed as probable on the injury report. Nearly all of them are active Week 2 against the Steelers. Le'Veon Bell, Antonio Brown, Heath Miller, Ben Roethlisberger, Cody Wallace and Markus Wheaton were all cleared to play. While they were all on the injury report, only Wallace was dealing with an injury. The rest missed practice for non-injury reasons.

On defense, the Steelers will have Brett Keisel, Steve McLendon, Troy Polamalu, Ike Taylor, Shamarko Thomas and Vince Williams. Wallace was dealing with an ankle issue, but the rest were listed for non-injury reasons.

Marcus Wheaton keys game-winning drive in first big game
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(9/7/14) If not for second-year wideout Markus Wheaton, the Steelers might have risked defeat in overtime Sunday against Cleveland.

Wheaton caught a critical 11-yard pass with time running out in regulation to put his team in range for the game-winning field goal.

That merely served to sweeten the stats in a breakout game for Wheaton, who finished with six catches for 97 yards - 33 more yards than he gained through the air all of last season.

Wheaton shredded Browns rookie cornerback Justin Gilbert on a 40-yard route down the sideline late in the first quarter, showing slick footwork to remain inbounds. He finished the first half with four receptions for 66 yards.

He will seek to continue his fine play Thursday against Baltimore.

Markus Wheaton not on the same page with Ben Roethlisberger Thursday
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(8/21/14) Steelers wide receiver Markus Wheaton had a bad drop and endured some communication issues with Ben Roethlisberger Thursday night against the Eagles in preseason action, per the NFL Network. Wheaton finished the first half without a grab and caught passes for 10 and 14 yards in the third quarter. He caught half of his four targets for 24 yards.

"It looked bad. We'll go watch the film, it could be 'this here is wrong, that is wrong,' you fix it and you get rolling," Wheaton said, per the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Ben Roethlisberger praises Markus Wheaton for progress
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(8/21/14) Despite a lack of production as a rookie in 2013, Steelers wideout Markus Wheaton has received praise from quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

Wheaton was held without a catch in the final six games of last season, but Roethlisberger believes his offseason work has put him in position to make a significant impact this year.

"He's a young guy people don't know about yet," Roethlisberger told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He hasn't earned that respect, which is probably rightfully so, because he hasn't done much. But I'm excited for him because I think he's going to surprise a lot of people."

The Steelers are hoping Wheaton can emerge to take the pressure off premier receiver Antonion Brown that has been lacking since the departure of Mike Wallace. Faith in Wheaton prompted the team to allow Emmanuel Sanders to leave for Denver.
