Eagles TE Zach Ertz (core) out for preseason

by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer
(8/14/15) Eagles tight end Zach Ertz will not play in the preseason due to a core muscle injury, but should be ready for Week 1 of the regular season, per the Philadelphia Daily News

Ertz underwent surgery Friday to repair the groin issue, but coach Chip Kelly said the injury should be fine by the time the team opens the season on Sept. 13.

Ertz caught 58 passes for 702 yards and three touchdowns last year.

Chip Kelly envisions 'big jump' for TE Zach Ertz

by Larry Hartstein | Senior Analyst
(3/25/15) Eagles coach Chip Kelly believes he can get a lot more out of tight end Zach Ertz, who caught 58 passes for 702 yards and three touchdowns last year. "I still think there's a big jump that can happen between Year 2 and 3," Kelly said, per the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Ertz played just half the snaps last season because he didn't block as well as tight end Brett Celek. With wideout Jeremy Maclin's departure via free agency, Philly could lean more on Ertz's receiving skills in 2015.

Eagles TE Zach Ertz caps disappointing season

by Larry Hartstein | Senior Analyst
(12/28/14) This was supposed to be a breakout year for Eagles tight end Zach Ertz, who closed 2013 with four touchdown catches in his final six games, including the playoffs. But Ertz didn't live up to expectations, partly because Brett Celek's superior blocking limited Ertz's snaps.

Ertz caught four of six targets for 56 yards Week 17 against the Giants. He finished the season with 58 catches for 702 yards and three scores, producing one 100-yard game.

Ertz is signed for two more seasons.

More to come for Zach Ertz?

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(12/21/14) In setting a franchise record with 15 receptions Week 16 at Washington, Eagles tight end Zach Ertz, as you might expect, also led the team with 18 targets, 10 more than his previous season high, which he had only reached once. In other words, he hadn't been a significant part of the Eagles passing game prior to Week 16.

Of course, 18 targets is an unfair comparison for anyone. It's the second-most any player has had in a game this season. It was made possible by quarterback Mark Sanchez attempting a season-high 50 passes in a game where neither team had trouble moving the ball. Of course, the Redskins in particular have struggled against tight ends this season, allowing the fourth-most Fantasy points per game to them.

Here's the problem for Ertz: The Eagles didn't win. This tight end-heavy approach wasn't some game-changer for their offense, and two talented wide receivers in Jeremy Maclin and Jordan Matthews took a back seat because of it.

Obviously, if you're hurting at tight end -- and it's a position that isn't quite 12 deep in Fantasy -- you could give him a look for Week 17 against Dallas, which also struggles against tight ends, but more likely than not, this performance was an aberration.

Eagles TE Zach Ertz breaks franchise record with 15 receptions

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(12/20/14) Eagles tight end Zach Ertz broke a franchise record with 15 receptions in Saturday's loss to the Redskins in Week 16. His 15 receptions were the most by any player this season.

Ertz was Mark Sanchez's primary target, hauling in a career-best 15 of 18 targets for 115 yards in a 27-24 defeat. Eight of his 15 receptions came in the fourth quarter, including a 16-yard grab -- his longest gain of the day.

Ertz has 44 receptions for 646 yards and three touchdowns this season. He will look to end the year on a high note in Week 17 against the Giants.
