Eagles address WR need with Jordan Matthews
by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(5/9/14) The Eagles needed a receiver with DeSean Jackson gone, and they addressed the position by drafting Vanderbilt's Jordan Matthews in the second round.

Matthews will likely be No. 3 on the depth chart behind Jeremy Maclin and Riley Cooper, and he will have minimal Fantasy value in 2014. He should, however, help Nick Foles and the Eagles offense.

Matthews is a good receiver, but he's not a burner, which the Eagles will miss with Jackson gone. Still, this receiving corps is starting to look solid with Maclin, Cooper, Matthews, Zach Ertz, LeSean McCoy and Darren Sproles.

It should only help Folk, who depended heavily on Jackson last year. He's still a low-end No. 1 Fantasy quarterback, but he's a great one to wait for with a late-round pick.

As for Matthews, he's only worth a late-round flier in standard leagues, and he's a solid second-round pick in rookie-only formats.

Eagles will be OK even without DeSean Jackson
by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(5/6/14) The Eagles lost DeSean Jackson this offseason, and Fantasy owners are concerned their offense could struggle without a deep threat down the field. It's possible, but there's still plenty of talent for Fantasy owners to tap into even though Jackson is gone.

For an in-depth look at some of the top Eagles players -- Nick Foles, LeSean McCoy, Darren Sproles, Jeremy Maclin, Riley Cooper and Zach Ertz -- check out this blog I wrote in looking at their preseason outlooks. A lot can change between now and the start of the season, but here is one view on the Eagles heading into this year.

Zach Ertz headed for "huge role"
by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(5/5/14) Eagles coach Chip Kelly seems to believe that gigantic tight end Zach Ertz "can have a huge role" in 2014, helping the team replace receiver DeSean Jackson. The Philadelphia Inquirer noted that several Pro Bowl caliber tight ends made a huge jump from Year 1 to Year 2, including the likes of Antonio Gates, Rob Gronkowski and Jimmy Graham. The paper believes he'll see a jump in playing time, especially if he can improve his blocking.

"He's got the ability to be a flexed-out guy," Eagles GM Howie Roseman said. "He can play with his hand down. He can play in the slot. He can line up outside. He's a hard guy to cover because he's got really good feet, [and] obviously he's big."

Zach Ertz looking to take next step
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(4/25/14) Eagles tight end Zach Ertz had some big games down the stretch of his rookie season, catching two touchdown passes against the Cardinals and making six grabs for 57 yards and a score at Minnesota. Ertz is preparing for a bigger 2014 role.

“I want to be more of a complete tight end," he told the team's website. "I don’t want there to be a situation where I have to come off the field because it’s a running play or a passing play and the coaches feel they have to get me off the field. That’s what I’m working for this year.”

Ertz finished with 36 catches for 469 yards and four touchdowns while sharing time with Brent Celek and James Casey. The website said the Eagles plan to move Ertz around the formation "quite a bit" and use his ability "to get down the field."

Eagles using Broncos' offense as a model
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(3/2/14) Eagles quarterback Nick Foles won't lack for targets in 2014. Receivers Riley Cooper and Jeremy Maclin are under contract, joining receiver DeSean Jackson, tight ends Zach Ertz and Brent Celek and of course running back LeSean McCoy.

Askef if there will be enough passes to go around, general manager Howie Roseman told Birds 24/7 that he's trying to follow Denver's model.

"When you look at how many offensive plays that you have over the course of the season, there’s a lot of opportunities to spread the ball around, get people involved," Roseman said. "I don’t think you have to look further than when you look at the Denver Broncos and how many options they have in their passing game and how big of an advantage that is when you have guys all around the field and you can get different personnel groups and that’s what we’re looking to do. We're looking to be an explosive, dynamic offense and when you talk about the skills that he has, Jeremy, certainly he adds to that group."

Maclin was the latest to sign when he inked a one-year deal Saturday.
