Marvin Lewis: Bengals' back-up QB job is AJ McCarron's to lose

by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(3/24/15) AJ McCarron will be the Bengals' back-up quarterback at the start of 2015, Marvin Lewis told the media on Tuesday.

In a media appearance at the NFL Owners Meetings, Lewis said that the team may bring back last year's number-two quarterback, Jason Campbell, but he said the job is McCarron's to lose.

"AJ McCarron has everything that you want in a quarterback, a successful quarterback in the NFL,' Lewis said, per Bengals.com. "We’ll have some additions to the position that AJ will compete with and we just have to go forward that way."

Andy Dalton not expected to face competition

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(1/15/15) The Bengals aren't expected to draft a quarterback and are prepared to enter 2015 with the same three quarterbacks they had this season, reports the team's website. That means Andy Dalton starting, Jason Campbell backing him up and AJ McCarron as the developmental project.

“He’s our guy and we’re not going to shy away from that,” offensive coordinator Hue Jackson said of Dalton.

Added quarterbacks coach Ken Zampese: “He was better with the intangibles this year and the ball was better coming out of his hand. You could see that right away when he came back from the last offseason.”

Jackson hopes the team re-signs Campbell, an impending free agent, saying Campbell "did a sensational job in the role we asked him to play."

A.J. Green, Jermaine Gresham head Bengals' inactive list

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(1/4/15) The Bengals will be without top wideout A.J. Green (concussion) and starting tight end Jermaine Gresham (back) for Sunday's playoff game at Indianapolis. They combined for 1,501 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns this season.

With those key targets out, quarterback Andy Dalton figures to rely on running backs Jeremy Hill and Giovani Bernard and wideout Mohamed Sanu.

Also inactive for Cincy are quarterback AJ McCarron, defensive back Chris Lewis-Harris, offensive lineman Tanner Hawkinson, defensive lineman Devon Still and wideout James Wright (knee).

Cincy is a 3.5-point underdog as Dalton looks for his first playoff win in four tries.

Bengals list Week 17 inactives vs. Steelers

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(12/28/14) The Bengals have listed the following players as inactive for Sunday night's Week 17 matchup with the Steelers: cornerback Terence Newman (illness), wide receivers James Wright (knee) and Greg Little, quarterback AJ McCarron , guard T.J. Johnson, tackle Tanner Hawkinson and defensive tackle Devon Still.

Newman and Wright were both listed as questionable to play in the regular-season finale. The team will have four other questionables available to play against the Steelers.

Cincinnat is a 3 1/2-point underdog in Pittsburgh in Week 17.

(12/22/14) The Bengals ruled these players inactive for Monday's game against the Broncos: quarterback AJ McCarron (illness), defensive back Chris Lewis-Harris, linebacker Emmanuel Lamu (hamstring), wideouts Greg Little and James Wright (knee), and offensive linemen Devon Still and Tanner Hawkinson.
