Giants' Jason Pierre-Paul speaks to Tom Coughlin

by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(8/9/15) Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul spoke to head coach Tom Coughlin for the first time since suffering a hand injury on July 4.

"I did talk to him late yesterday afternoon,' Coughlin said on Saturday, per NFL.com. "Everybody has had a good conversation with him, and mine was the same. Do I know any more than I did before? No. Do I know when he's coming? He's looking forward to coming, he's anxious to be here, but he's not going to come until he feels like he's ready to be able to play. It could be whatever amount of time, I'm not even going to speculate."

After not speaking to the team after first suffering a fireworks injury, Pierre-Paul is now communicating with the Giants.

"We've had many people talk to him," Coughlin said. "(Defensive line coach) Robert Nunn has talked to him, (general manager) Jerry (Reese) has talked to him. He's little-by-little tried to make his contacts, and that is a positive thing."

Coach: Giants DE Jason Pierre-Paul determined to return

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(8/7/15) Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul hasn't made any public declarations since a fireworks accident on July 4 cost him at least his right index finger. But he has been communicating to defensive line coach Robert Nunn, who has a message for everyone else.

And that is that the premier pass rusher plans on playing football again.

"I've spoken to him on the phone. I've texted him back and forth ... just to let him know we're here for him," Nunn told the New York Daily News. "His response has been: 'Coach, I'm good, and I want to get myself right and I'll be back.'"

When Pierre-Paul has been right, he's been deadly to opposing quarterbacks. He racked up 12 1/2 sacks in 2014.

Justin Tuck: Giants' Jason Pierre-Paul is going to have a great year

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(7/20/15) Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul's inner-circle has shrunk since his Fourth of July fireworks incident, which resulted in his right index finger being amputated, according to NJ.com. However, one person who has been in contact with Pierre-Paul is Raiders defensive end, former teammate and mentor Justin Tuck.

"What I told JPP is go out and play football. I've been in constant conversation with JPP," Tuck said Monday at the fourth Annual Newark Mentoring Movement Charity Golf Outing at Liberty National Golf Club.

Tuck is the first player who has reported making contact with Pierre-Paul. Teammates have reached out, but Pierre-Paul has kept his correspondence restricted to family and close friends, per NJ.com.

While Pierre-Paul has kept the Giants out of the loop, Tuck said he is in good spirits since leaving the hospital.

"He is," Tuck said. "He'll be the first one to tell you he made a mistake. He's fine. He's going to have a great year.

"I think he will be [successful]. Once he gets used to playing again, you can't deny his athletic ability. He's a terror to block. Hopefully everything else gets healthy around him and if that is the case, I don't see any reason why he wouldn't be the JPP of the second half of the season like he was last year."

Report: Giants can't come to terms with Jason Pierre-Paul on new deal

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(7/15/15) The Giants could not agree to terms on a new deal with defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul before Wednesday's 4 p.m. ET deadline for players under the franchise tag to sign a long-term contract this year, according to the New York Daily News. The two sides can't restart negotiations on a multi-year deal until the end of the regular season.

Pierre Paul will play the 2015 season under his $14.813 million franchise tender. His chances of signing a long-term deal were significantly reduced following a fireworks incident during the Fourth of July weekend that resulted in injuries to his hands.

Although, Pierre-Paul reportedly won't sign his tender until confident he can pass his physical to prevent the team from putting him on the non-football injury (NFI) list.

The 2010 first-round pick bounced back in 2014 with 12 1/2 sacks after he was limited to two sacks in 11 games in 2013 due to injury. He has totaled 205 tackles and 42 sacks in his first five NFL seasons. He also has two interceptions -- which he returned for touchdowns -- eight forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries.

Report: Giants DE Jason Pierre-Paul discharged from hospital

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(7/14/15) Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul has been released from the hospital after having his right index finger amputated folllowing a July 4 fireworks accident, a source has confirmed to ESPN.

Another source has told ESPN that Pierre-Paul and the team have yet to communicate about rehab expectations and schedules. The recovery time, however, has been estimated at about six weeks. But he has yet to practice with the team - which is installing a new defense - because of a contract dispute.

The Giants have no plan to rescind the $14.813 franchise tender offer, but Pierre-Paul is unlikely to sign it at least until he passes a physical. He does not want to be placed on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.
