Ravens have options at receiver
by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(3/25/14) Ravens coach John Harbaugh said Tuesday at the NFL owners meetings that Marlon Brown still has a chance to be a quality playmaker even though the team added Steve Smith this offseason and brought back Jacoby Jones. Torrey Smith is also there as the No. 1 receiver.

"He's competing for a starting spot," Harbaugh said. "It's not a two-receiver league anymore. It’s not like you’ve got your two starters and then your No. 3 guy is a slot receiver. That’s the way that people kind of want to label it. It’s just more complex than that. And with Jacoby, you’ve got four guys right there that are going to play a lot of football. And one thing I think (offensive coordinator) coach (Gary) Kubiak does a great job of is he understands how to put guys in a position to play to their strengths. He knows Jacoby very well, and Jacoby has only gotten better since he's been here. He's matured as a player and a person. Steve Smith has certain things that he does extremely well. So does Marlon Brown, and Marlon's going to obviously, I would think, make leaps and bounds from Year 1 to Year 2. ... Gary’s got some guys that he’s excited to work with, so I can't wait to see how he uses them."

Joe Flacco, receivers to get early start
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(3/25/14) Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco will work out with his receivers before the team's offseason program.

"Joe has communicated that through texts, and Torrey [Smith] has told me that they have a session planned and are trying to work out the dates," coach John Harbaugh said at the NFL owners meetings. "I'll be looking forward to seeing how it goes. It is important. It's big."

Flacco's receiving corps includes Torrey Smith, Steve Smith, Marlon Brown, Jacoby Jones and tight end Dennis Pitta. Flacco threw 19 touchdowns and a career-high 22 interceptions last year.

Ravens need 'move-the-chains' receiver
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(2/26/14) Asked what the Ravens' offense lacks, wideout Torrey Smith mentioned a "move-the-chains" receiver like Anquan Boldin. Of course, Baltimore traded Boldin following its Super Bowl victory last year.

“I don’t want to say an Anquan, but just a guy that’s like a move-the-chains guy," Smith told the Baltimore Sun. "That’s probably someone that we need on a consistent basis. Another weapon like that is just another person that Joe [Flacco] can rely on.”

Second-year pro Marlon Brown returns to the receiving corps, while Baltimore could lose unrestricted free agent Jacoby Jones and restricted free agent Tandon Doss. The other four receivers on the roster -- Deonte Thompson, Kamar Aiken, Gerrard Sheppard and Aaron Mellette – all are unproven, the report said.

Ravens looking for help at receiver
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(1/13/14) The Ravens are looking for a receiver to supplement Torrey Smith and Marlon Brown, reports the Carroll County Times. Baltimore has no tight ends under contract for 2014.

“We need to be able to get a receiver – whether it’s a tight end or a wide receiver — that can make a third-and-7, third-and-8 catch and run after the catch,” general manager Ozzie Newsome told the paper.

Ravens get minor contributions in loss
by Nando Di Fino | Senior Fantasy Writer
(12/29/13) The Ravens ended their season with a 34-17 loss to the Bengals on Sunday. Running back Bernard Pierce had 46 total yards, including five carries for a team-high 28 rushing yards.

Marlon Brown scored the lone receiving touchdown for the Ravens, on an eight-yard pass in the third quarter. He ended up with 30 yards in the game. Brown finishes the season with seven receiving touchdowns, the most on the team.

The Ravens finish the season 8-8 overall, with a 3-2 record in the division.
