DeAndre Hopkins ready to assume Texans' No. 1 WR role
|by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer|
|(8/3/15) Third-year receiver DeAndre Hopkins is now the focal point of the Texans' WR corps, and he is comfortable with the responsibility of being the top target with veteran Andre Johnson gone, per the Houston Chronicle.
Hopkins caught 76 passes for 1,210 yards last season despite working with four quarterbacks. The Texans' QB situation remains unsettled, but Hopkins is eager to make an impact.
"I'm going to demand the ball and make them (coaches and teammates) think I'm the (go-to) guy. That's always been my mentality every time I step on the field," Hopkins said.
Texans DeAndre Hopkins should be ready for training camp
|by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com|
|(6/8/15) Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins should be fully recovered from his season-ending wrist injury by the start of training camp.
Head coach Bill O'Brien told the media, "Yeah, I think Hop will be ready for training camp. I can see him being ready. I don’t know the date. Like, I can’t tell you if it’s going to be July 25th or the 27th or the 28th at 9:00 am when he’ll be ready. I don’t know, but I know that he’ll be out there at some point during training camp ready to go."
Texans' O'Brien: WR DeAndre Hopkins can 'be one of the best'
|by Dave Peters | CBSSports.com|
|(4/1/15) Texans head coach Bill O'Brien is very encouraged by the performance of wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins last season, per ESPN. O'Brien went as far as to say that Hopkins can be one of the best.
"He had a really productive year," Texans coach Bill O'Brien said. "The thing that we really like about Hop and that we want him to continue to do is his work ethic. He’s a hungry player. He works every single day. He came into the spring a year ago and he was learning the offense and thinking out there, then all of a sudden you could see all the work he put in and learning, he just took off."
Due to the departure of wide receiver Andre Johnson, the progression of Hopkins will be under the microscope as he is now the focal point of the passing offense.
"We just want to see him continue and progress," O'Brien said. "We think he can be one of the best, we think he is one of the best. We have a lot of confidence in him and we’re looking forward to seeing him progress when the offseason program starts."
In two years with the Texans, Hopkins has reeled in 128 receptions for 2012 yards and eight touchdowns.
Bill O'Brien: 'Sky's the limit' for WR DeAndre Hopkins
|by Larry Hartstein | Senior Analyst|
|(3/26/15) With Andre Johnson now in Indy, DeAndre Hopkins enters the 2015 season as the Texans' undisputed No. 1 receiver.
“He had a really good year last year and the sky’s the limit with Hop (Hopkins)," coach Bill O'Brien told NFL Network. "He’s an excellent young player who works extremely hard and we’re looking forward to putting together our whole receiving corps and he should be the leader of that.”
Hopkins led Houston with 1,210 receiving yards and six receiving touchdowns last year. He has 128 catches for 2,012 yards and eight scores in his two NFL seasons.
Texans' DeAndre Hopkins underwent surgery on wrist
|by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com|
|(2/22/15) Texans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins revealed he recently had surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right wrist, reports CBS Houston.
Hopkins was listed on the Week 17 injury report with a wrist injury. The surgery placed a pin and rod into his wrist. Hopkins had to wear a cast, which was removed Saturday. He said the procedure was minor and he's a couple of weeks away from resuming normal activities.
|DeAndre Hopkins had himself a breakout season as he ascended to the top of the Texans receiving chart, but there are some concerns. Despite catching 76 passes for 1,210 yards and six scores, Hopkins had just five games with 10-plus Fantasy points. That includes three in the first four weeks of the season and a monster game in Week 13 against a weak Titans pass defense that accounted for 19.6 percent of his receiving yards, 33.3 percent of his total touchdown production and 24 percent of his Fantasy point totals. This isn't to say that Hopkins won't be a great Fantasy option, but it's a sign that he might wind up being inconsistent even as he becomes the clear-cut No. 1 in Houston and theoretically becomes a giant target for the Texans' mediocre quarterbacks. You'll be fine if you draft him as a middle-of-the-pack No. 2 receiver between 40th and 50th overall in standard leagues and a little bit higher in PPR leagues.
