'Faster' Keenan Allen hoping for big year
by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(6/4/14) Chargers receiver Keenan Allen had a great rookie year in 2013 with 71 catches, 1,046 yards and eight touchdowns. But Allen is out to show doubters he's not just a one-hit wonder, reports ESPN.

"One thing for him that's going to be key -- and I think he knows this -- is not to relax and think you're going to just duplicate that year," Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers said. "They’re going to know where No. 13 is, have a plan for him and try to take away the things he does well."

Allen said a primary focus has been improving his speed. One reason Allen dropped to the third round in the 2013 draft is that he ran a slow time in the 40-yard dash at his pro day. Still recovering from a knee issue that cut short his final season at Cal, Allen was timed at about 4.65 seconds.

Allen believes he is faster now and fully healthy.

"I mean if you run a 4.3 or 4.4, that obviously says that you're fast," Allen said. "But a 4.6 guy can still make their way into the league. Some of the best receivers in the league ran a 4.5 or 4.6. So now that I'm healthy, I'm pretty sure I'm faster than 4.6."

McCoy says Keenan Allen will see tougher coverage
by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(3/25/14) Chargers coach Mike McCoy said Tuesday at the NFL owners meetings that receiver Keenan Allen can't rest on his accomplishments as a rookie in 2013. McCoy said Allen needs to prepare for a tougher year this season.

Allen had 71 catches for 1,046 yards and eight touchdowns last year.

"When you’re a young player and had the success he did, now he’s got a bulls-eye on his back," McCoy said. "Everybody is going to know where he is every play. The success he had, that comes with the territory. And that’s a good problem to have. Then again, now you have to get in that much better shape. Now you’re going to see a double team here and there. You’re going to see the best corner on you. You have to work that much harder now. Now it’s all the little fine details that we’ve been talking about that you might have gotten away with in the past. Now when you get matched up with the best corners in the league you have to be at your best every week because they’re going to know where you are."

Keenan Allen wins award
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(1/14/14) Chargers wide recevier Keenan Allen was named the Offensive Rookie of the Year by the Pro Football Writers of America.

The PFWA also named Allen to the All-Rookie team. Allen had a strong season for San Diego, catching 71 balls for 1046 yards and eight touchdowns.

Keenan Allen explodes in second half
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(1/12/14) Shut out in the first half, Chargers wideout Keenan Allen caught six passes for 142 yards and two touchdowns after halftime of the playoff loss at Denver. He became the second rookie in NFL history to post 100 receiving yards and two touchdown catches in a playoff game.

Allen caught a pair of 16-yard touchdowns in the fourth quarter and hauled in a 49-yard bomb. He was targeted a team-high nine times.

Having established himself as Philip Rivers' favorite receiver, Allen finishes his rookie year with 10 touchdowns.

Chargers offensive studs fizzle against Bengals
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(1/5/14) The Chargers didn't need their normal output from their offensive stars to pull off a victory against the Bengals.

Eddie Royal was the most successful of the bunch, catching one pass for 33 yards. Keenan Allen managed to catch two balls, but only gained 21 yards. Antonio Gates was well-covered by the Bengals, and caught just one pass for 5 yards. The Chargers did not rely on the passing game, which meant none of their pass catchers had big games. Each player will look to rebound next week against Denver.
