GM: Marcus Lattimore 'close' to practicing
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(7/27/14) 49ers general manager Trent Baalke said running back Marcus Lattimore has not encountered a setback in his return from reconstructive knee surgery and is "close" to be activated, reports the Sacramento Bee. Baalke didn't provide a more specific timetable.

"He's coming off, as we all know, a horrific injury," Baalke told the paper. "And we want to make sure, as does he, that he's 100 percent mentally and physically ready to go to help this football team, and to give himself the best chance to compete at a high level. ... But as far as setbacks, no."

Lattimore is on the non-football injury list, meaning he's sidelined due to the 2012 injury he sustained in college. Baalke said the issue is partly mental.

"There's a mental hurdle and a physical hurdle you've got to overcome," he said. "And he's close. How close? That remains to be seen."

Asked how the team will know when Lattimore has cleared those hurdles, Baalke replied: "I think the players tell you. Just like Michael Crabtree last year when he was coming back (from an Achilles' tendon tear). It really came down to when he believed in his mind he was ready to go. You can't tell them how they feel. As a player, they know when they're ready."

Marcus Lattimore on NFI list with two injuries
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(7/24/14) 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh said running back Marcus Lattimore is starting camp on the non-football injury list because that's what doctors and trainers recommended, reports the Sacramento Bee.

Asked if the problem was Lattimore's surgically reconstructed knee or the hamstring strain he suffered in the spring, Harbaugh replied, "A combination of the two." Harbaugh declined to elaborate.

Other reports indicate Lattimore is not too far away from being ready. He could be activated at any time.

Marcus Lattimore, Ian Williams head list of unavailable 49ers
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(7/22/14) The 49ers placed six players on the non-football injury list, including second-year running back Marcus Lattimore (knee). Also on the list are receiver Bruce Ellington, center Marcus Martin, fullback Trey Millard, cornerback Keith Reaser and guard Brandon Thomas.

In addition, the team placed nose tackle Ian Williams (ankle) on the PUP list along with linebacker Aaron Lynch (hamstring) and defensive lineman Kaleb Ramsey

All the players can come off the list and start practicing at any time.

Marcus Lattimore to open camp on NFI list
by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(7/17/14) The 49ers announced that running back Marcus Lattimore will begin training camp on the team's non-football injury list, reports NFL.com.

Lattimore said in February that he was close to 100 percent on the heels of back-to-back devastating knee injuries in 2011 and 2012 at South Carolina. But he will now watch from afar as rookie Carlos Hyde challenges veteran Frank Gore and Kendall Hunter for snaps in San Francisco's run-heavy attack.

Lattimore's comeback has been an inspiration to teammates, but he will need to get on the field sooner than later to remain in the 49ers' plans.

Marcus Lattimore has good first day of minicamp
by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(6/18/14) 49ers running back Marcus Lattimore picked up a few extra reps while Frank Gore rested for the team's first day of minicamp and looked great. According to the Sacramento Bee, Lattimore was noticeably better, showing more explosiveness than he did a couple of weeks back when his hamstring was bothering him.

He showed off that burst of his when he made a catch on an out pattern and sped up the field. The paper qualifies this as "making progress" while offensive coordinator said Lattimore was "right on track."

Lattimore will compete for a spot on the depth chart behind Frank Gore in camp this summer.
