Denard Robinson the Jaguars running back to own

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(10/19/14) After serving as just a change-of-pace option for the first six weeks, Denard Robinson became the focal point of the Jaguars running game Week 7 against Cleveland, and based on how he performed in the role, he's a good bet to keep it going forward.

He ran 22 times for 127 yards and a touchdown, with a long of only 20 yards. That's a good thing in this case. It means he didn't owe the majority of his yardage to a single play in which he happened to break free. He was just a consistent contributor out of the backfield.

That's more than anyone can say for Toby Gerhart, the team's intended starter at running back. Gerhart, who was sidelined for Week 7 with a foot injury, ran for fewer yards in five weeks of starting (123) than Robinson did in just this one. The Jaguars knew there had to be a better answer, even experimenting with rookie Storm Johnson, and may have finally found it in Robinson.

Injured or not, Gerhart is just a waste of a roster spot in Fantasy, and though Johnson has scored a touchdown in two straight games, his 2.3 yards per carry during that stretch shows he's no real threat to Robinson. The Jaguars really don't have anything to lose by giving the second-year player an extended look, so he should be a priority off the waiver wire this week.

TD highlights meager game by Jaguars RB Storm Johnson

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10/19/14) What Jaguars running back Storm Johnson contributed most of the game Sunday against Cleveland was more like a drizzle than a storm. But he did enjoy one highlight.

Johnson iced the victory with a 3-yard touchdown run with 4:35 remaining in the game. He was otherwise overshadowed by breakout back Denard Robinson. Johnson finished with 16 yards on six carries.

He will try to bring more to the table if given the opportunity when Jacksonville hosts Miami in Week 8.

Jaguars RB Toby Gerhart a no-go for Sunday game

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10/17/14) What was feared is now reality - Jaguars running back Toby Gerhart has been ruled out for the Sunday game against Cleveland with a foot injury.

The setback continues a poor start to the season for Gerhart, who has been out of practice throughout the week after missing the game last Sunday at Tennessee. He has rushed for just 126 yards on 48 carries for a 2.6 average.

Gus Bradley has announced that the absence of Gerhart will result in Storm Johnson and Denard Robinson splitting the featured back duties with Jordan Todman playing on third downs. per the Florida Times-Union.

Storm Johnson facing easier matchup in second start

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10/16/14) Jaguars running back Storm Johnson didn't blow anyone away in his first start, but he should continue to see a decent role in Week 7 against the Browns, and could be in line for a better performance this time around.

Johnson rushed for just 21 yards on a career-high 10 carries against the Titans last week, but faces an easier matchup Sunday. The Browns are allowing 4.8 yards per carry to opposing running backs, compared to 4.0 for the Titans. The Browns are also allowing 21.6 Fantasy points per game to running backs, the eighth-highest total in the league.

The Jaguars' running game has been a disaster all season, so we shouldn't expect a huge showing from Johnson even as his role increases. This is a bit of a better matchup, though, and he looks like the primary option in the running game, even getting work on the goal line last week.

Though he shouldn't be considered a must-start option by any means, Johnson can be viewed as a bye-week replacement or Flex option for Week 7.

Jaguars planned to give Storm Johnson only 10 carries

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(10/14/14) Jaguars rookie running back Storm Johnson was never supposed to get more than 10 carries in his first start Sunday at Tennessee. Coach Gus Bradley told the Florida Times-Union that "our whole intent was to get Storm 10 carries and he got 10 carries." Johnson ran for 21 yards and a touchdown.

Running back Toby Gerhart missed the game with a foot injury. He'll be evaluated Wednesday.
