Cardinals S Tyrann Mathieu finally cast-free

by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer
(5/24/15) After a couple of injury-plagued seasons, Cardinals safety Tyrann Mathieu enters training camp almost completely healthy, without a brace on his knee or cast on his thumb, per NFL.com.

The Cardinals will need a healthy Mathieu to offseason the loss of former defensive coordinator Todd Bowles and cornerback Antonio Cromartie. In two seasons, Mathieu has 100 tackles and three interceptions but has been hampered by nagging injuries.

"It just feels good to be free," he said.

Cardinals S Tyrann Mathieu looks forward to being healthy

by Dave Peters | CBSSports.com
(3/30/15) Cardinals safety Tyrann Mathieu believes that he is regaining his health and he's ready to make an impact this season, according to the team's website.

“It’s been a long time since I’ve been healthy,” Mathieu said Monday. “Last year I felt like I took a back seat. I played well my rookie year and then last year it was kind of, eh, I was there but I wasn’t there. This (year) is more important for me because I really want to let everyone know I’m back and I can still make some plays.”

Mathieu tore his ACL and LCL toward the end of the 2013 season. He recently said that the comeback was "way harder than I thought."

Head coach Bruce Arians talked about how Mathieu was not himself last season.

“You saw him fight through it last year,” Arians said. “He was not the player he was used to (being) and it was very frustrating for him.”

Mathieu was aware of the chatter from the outside world and he is using that as motivation going forward.

“You hear people talk and I had time to listen to them talk, so it’s like … I hear it,” Mathieu said. “Like I said, I didn’t feel like I made enough plays last year to help our team. I am looking forward to this year because I know I can do it.”

The 22-year-old has registered 106 total tackles, one sack, three interceptions and one forced fumble in 26 games played during his two-year career.

Defensive starters good to go Saturday for Cardinals

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(1/3/15) Cardinals starting safety Tyrann Mathieu and defensive end Calais Campbell are both set to play Saturday against the Panthers in the Wild Card round of the NFC playoffs. Both were considered probable coming into the matchup.

Mathieu has played the last two weeks with a club cast on his thumb after having surgery on a broken bone.

Also set to play Saturday are Larry Foote (knee) and Frostee Rucker (ankle).

Cardinals list Drew Stanton as out, two as questionable against Panthers

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(1/2/15) The Cardinals have released their final injury report in preparation for their wild card matchup against the Panthers Saturday. Among those listed, quarterback Drew Stanton is out after not being able to practice all week. Coach Bruce Arians said earlier in the week if Stanton was able to practice for one of the three days, he would have been the starter.

Others on the injury report include Jonathan Cooper (wrist/knee) and Dan Williams (foot) as questionable. Calais Campbell (hip), Larry Foote (knee), Tyrann Mathieu (thumb/hip), Frostee Rucker (ankle) and Lyle Sendlein (back) are considered probable.

Cardinals' Larry Fitzgerald good to go for Week 17

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(12/28/14) Cardinals wideout Larry Fitzgerald is active Week 17 against the 49ers.

Fitzgerald entered the contest listed as probable due to a knee injury. He was never a serious candidate to miss the game.

The club will also have Lorenzo Alexander, Jaron Brown, Calais Campbell, Rashad Johnson, Ted Larsen, Tyrann Mathieu and Matt Shaughnessy for the contest. All seven players were also considered probable.

Deone Bucannon, John Carlson and Dan Williams will all attempt to play through injuries. They were all listed as questionable coming into the game.
