Titans WRs coach happy to see Justin Hunter calling for the football

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(8/12/15) Titans wide receivers coach Shawn Jefferson is seeing changes in wide receiver Justin Hunter's play that lead him to believe the third-year receiver is ready to take the next step in his career.

“A lot of times, new receivers come into the league with the physical tools, but the mentality hasn’t caught up,” Jefferson said, per ESPN.com. “We’re seeing his mental catch up to his physical skills now. He’s making some plays. It’s like now he expects to make them, when before he was unsure. He goes to the line now like, ‘Give me this rock.’ And that’s what you want to see.”

Hunter admits he had trouble shaking off mistakes, but he is trying to work on that part of his game.

“Going into my third year, I guess I’m just taking it a different way,” Hunter said. “I’m still in the building stage, I’ve still got things I need to learn, new positions, different concepts.

“I think I’ve limited most of the mistakes; I don’t make too many mistakes out there. If I do, it’s a brain fart and I come back and fix it and make sure it’s corrected.”

Report: Titans WR Justin Hunter arrested on assault charge

by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(7/20/15) Titans wide receiver Justin Hunter was arrested in Virginia on Monday and charged with felonious assault, reports News Channel 5.

Hunter was allegedly involved in a July 3 incident at Virginia Beach. Hunter was a second-round pick in the 2013 draft.

Titans WR Justin Hunter: 'I know I have to produce'

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(7/9/15) With the Titans set to open training camp July 30, wide receiver Justin Hunter is already looking forward to the start of the preseason, as he is determined to make an impact in 2015.

“Personally, I don’t feel like I have a chance to have a break now because I have a lot riding on the season and everything,’’ the third-year wide receiver said, per The Tennessean. “I have to get ready. I have to be prepared. I can’t take a break because I have to stay in condition so I’ll be ready to go to help this team.”

Hunter has flashed big-game potential at times during his first two seasons, but he has lacked consistency. Titans coach Ken Whisenhunt made it clear earlier this offseason that the Titans want more from the 6-4, 205-pound receiver, and Hunter wants to step up for Tennessee.

“I know I have to produce,’’ Hunter said. “I am confident, but humble at the same time. I have a lot to do, and a lot to prove to coaches. I know that. I just have to stay in my lane and keep working.”

Titans WR Justin Hunter has been practicing in the slot

by Ruben Palacios | Staff Writer
(6/4/15) Titans wide receiver Justin Hunter has been taking reps in the slot during organized team activities, per ESPN.com.

The Titans are talent-heavy in the slot with guys like Kendall Wright and Harry Douglas, but Hunter looks like he can be an added option at the position.

"It’s positional," coach Ken Whisenhunt said. "It’s not necessarily 'you’re the slot,' it’s 'sometimes your position lines up in the slot.' It’s a way of keeping tabs of who’s going where (on defense), but more importantly it makes defenses have to prepare for different looks."

Hunter caught 28 passes for 498 yards and three touchdowns in 12 games last season.

Titans wide receiver Justin Hunter progressing well from spleen injury

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(2/20/15) Titans wide receiver Justin Hunter has had no setbacks in the recovery process from the lacerated spleen he suffered last season, according to coach Ken Whisenhunt.

"He is fine," Whisenhunt said to the Tennessean. "He is in there rehabbing and everything is good. He is doing a nice job."

Hunter suffered the injury last in the regular season and was hospitalized for a few days before being place on season-ending injured reserve.

He finished the year with 28 catches for 498 yards and three touchdowns in 12 games.
