Carlos Hyde enters early
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(8/17/14) Rookie running back Carlos Hyde replaced Frank Gore during the 49ers' first drive against the Broncos and handled the majority of work with the first-team offense. Hyde ran four times for 11 yards and caught a 9-yard pass.

Hyde has nine carries for 50 yards (5.6 ypc) through two preseason games.

Carlos Hyde rumbles for 39 yards
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(8/7/14) 49ers rookie running back Carlos Hyde got the start Thursday with Frank Gore resting, and Hyde made the most of it, rushing five times for 39 yards. His best run came when he followed fullback Bruce Miller for a 19-yard jaunt off left tackle.

While quarterback Colin Kaepernick was in the game, Hyde ran three times for 34 yards. He was less effective after backup Blaine Gabbert entered, carrying twice for 5 yards.

Coaches compare Carlos Hyde to Frank Gore
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(7/31/14) 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh paraphrased offensive coordinator Greg Roman in comparing rookie running back Carlos Hyde to veteran Frank Gore.

"Carlos gets football, understands football," Harbaugh told CSNBayArea.com, echoing a comment by Roman. "It’s natural for him to understand the game, similar to Frank Gore. And we're seeing those things, and both are very good signs and bode well for us."

Currently running as Gore's backup, Hyde rushed for nearly 2,500 yards and 31 touchdowns in his final two seasons at Ohio State.

Carlos Hyde already 'flashing' in camp
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(7/27/14) 49ers general manager Trent Baalke said rookie running back Carlos Hyde already is "flashing" his skills in training camp, reports the San Jose Mercury News. With Kendall Hunter out for the year with a torn ACL, Hyde has a golden opportunity to seize the No. 2 job behind Frank Gore.

However, Hyde has plenty of competition. LaMichael James worked as the No. 2 tailback Saturday, and former practice squad member Jewel Hampton also is off to a great start in camp. Second-year pro Marcus Lattimore will join the battle as soon as he's activated from the non-football injury list.

Carlos Hyde showing 'great hands' as receiver
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(7/16/14) Aside from his potential as a power rusher, 49ers rookie running back Carlos Hyde's hands "looked great during offseason workouts," reports the San Jose Mercury News. The paper said it's a skill the team needs, and one that could earn Hyde more playing time in a crowded backfield.
