(9/1/14) Lions rookie linebacker Kyle Van Noy, who underwent sports hernia surgery last week, is a candidate for short-term injured reserve, reports MLive.com. That designation would sideline him for at least eight games.
Teams can begin assigning players to short-term IR on Tuesday.

(8/28/14) Lions rookie linebacker Kyle Van Noy underwent surgery on Thursday to repair a core muscle injury, according to the team's official website. The team has not released a timetable for his return, though it seems unlikely that he'll be ready for the first game of the regular season.

(8/25/14) Lions linebacker Kyle Van Noy will see a specialist to get another look at his abdominal injury, the Detroit Free Press reports.
"He’s still under evaluation," Caldwell said Monday. "He’s still got to see the doctors, and the doctors are going to tell him. He’s going to a specialist to take a look at it, and we’ll make a determination, at that point in time, where he is."
Van Noy may require surgery for a sports hernia, and he isn't expected to be ready for the start of the regular season.
|The Lions might have landed a steal when they moved up to take linebacker Kyle Van Noy with a second-round pick in the draft. Van Noy is not only big at 6-foot-3 and 243 pounds, he's also quick, smart and tough -- pretty important qualities if you're looking for a linebacker. Best of all, he's versatile. While the Lions will probably start him off as an outside linebacker, coaches have called him a "three-down player" capable of producing a lot of stats. This is a name to remember in 2014. We'd draft Van Noy with a middle-round pick in seasonal drafts and dynasty/keeper leagues as well as with a third-round pick in rookie-only drafts.
