Bills LB Preston Brown prepares to take command of defense
|by Ruben Palacios | Staff Writer|
|(6/12/15) Bills linebacker Preston Brown is being handed the keys to a brand new Ferrari, in the sense that the second-year player will be in charge of the huddle in Rex Ryan's touted defense.
The Bills and Ryan are confident in Brown, despite him being just 22 years old.
''Oh, gawd, I didn't realize he was 22. I'm a little nervous,'' the Bills new coach said. ''But no. He certainly has more of, I don't know if mature is the right word. But he's been around the game awhile.''
Brown also has a vote of confidence from defensive coordinator Dennis Thurman.
'He's a smart guy, and you very seldom have to repeat things to him,'' Thurman said. ''Usually a coach's kid is going to have that mental aptitude because he's been around the game for a long time. He's taken to the call. He seems very comfortable in the huddle.''
Brown started 14 games last season and led the Bills with 108 tackles.
Brandon Spikes won't be a three-down LB if he returns to Bills
|by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com|
|(2/20/15) If linebacker Brandon Spikes is going to return to the Bills it will be in a different role than what he's used to.
Via the Bills' official website, general manager Doug Whaley said depth at the position will not allow Spikes to continue playing as a three-down linebacker.
"I just talked to him today and the new staff sees a different role than maybe he does so I told him to see if he can get a team that sees him the way he sees himself,” Whaley said. “If not, come back to us and then we can talk."
The Bills are anticipating the return of Kiko Alonso, who tore his ACL last July. The Bills are also high on linebackers Preston Brown and Nigel Bradham.
Spikes recorded 54 tackles and a forced fumble in 2014.
“Brandon is one of my favorite players. We’re going to reach out to his representation and see how he would fit in this new defensive scheme and because of the depth we have whether it would fit how he sees himself as a player," Whaley said. "So it’ll be more of, ‘Hey do you want to come back and be a one or two down player? Or do you want to try to go out and still be an every down player [elsewhere]?’ So that one is going to be a kind of seeing what works for him and what works for us.”
Bills defense shines in Week 8 win vs. Jets
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
|(10/26/14) The Bills defense racked up six turnovers and four sacks in the team's 43-23 win over the Jets in Week 8. The Jets fumbled the ball four times in the loss, losing two, while throwing four interceptions in a poor all-around effort from the offense.
Leading the Bills' sack charge was defensive tackle Kyle Williams, who delivered 1.5 sacks despite dealing with a minor back injury during the game. Defensive end Mario Williams also had a half a sack as well as a forced fumble, while defensive linemen Corbin Bryant contributed a sack and a forced fumble and defensive end Jarius Wynn added a sack of his own.
The Bills were able to intercept four passes, with three coming against starter Geno Smith in the first quarter and one coming from the arm of backup Michael Vick, who took over and played most of the game. Linebacker Preston Brown, cornerback Stephon Gilmore and safeties Aaron Williams and Da'Norris Searcy each picked off a pass in the winning effort.
The Bills head into a Week 9 bye with a 5-3 record before facing the Chiefs in Week 10.

|(9/15/14) Bills linebacker Preston Brown put together a productive game Sunday, leading the team in tackles in a 29-10 win over the Dolphins in Week 2.
Brown racked up 13 tackles -- seven solo -- in the win, while accumulating no stats. He has 20 through the first two games of his career.
Rookie Preston Brown has big opportunity
|by Larry Hartstein | Senior Analyst|
|(7/9/14) With linebacker Kiko Alonso (ACL) likely done for the year, Bills third-round rookie Preston Brown could win a starting job, reports the Buffalo News. Brown "was outstanding at the team’s voluntary workouts and minicamp," the paper said, and "coaches raved behind the scenes about how well Brown practiced."
Brown led Louisville in tackles in 2013 for the second straight year as he made 98 stops, 12.5 for loss, while adding 4.5 sacks and three forced fumbles. He'll vie with Keith Rivers and Nigel Bradham to replace Alonso.
