Andrew Hawkins shows he still matters

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(10/20/14) Though the Browns offense struggled as a whole Week 7 at Jacksonville, wide receiver Andrew Hawkins made a grand re-entry into the game plan with a season-high 112 yards on five catches. He also led the team with nine targets, giving him at least that many in five of the Browns' six games this season.

Of course, the one time he didn't have that many, he had only two Week 6 against Pittsburgh. Between that game and Week 5 at Tennessee, he had a combined three catches for 26 yards, dropping off the radar in Fantasy after averaging 7.0 caches for 81.3 yards in his first three games.

So now what? Last week, it seemed like an easy call. "Stick a fork in him," my headline read. But clearly, the Browns haven't turned the page on him just yet.

Because he's more of a possession guy in an offense that won't have too many touchdowns through the air, he's still more or less a lost cause in standard leagues. But in points-per-reception leagues, he's at least serviceable. His inconsistencies make him best suited as a bye-week replacement, though.

Browns WR Andrew Hawkins a bright light in dark afternoon

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10/19/14) A meager day for the Browns offensively in Week 7 at Jacksonville had just one offensive standout - and that was diminutive wideout Andrew Hawkins.

Hawkins emerged from a mini-slump, which included getting blanked last week, by leading both teams with 112 yards receiving on five receptions. The highlight was a short pass in which he used his speed to run up the middle for a career-long 65-yard gain. He was targeted nine times in the game.

His 382 yards receiving this year nearly doubles his total from 2013 and puts him on pace for more than 1,000 on the season. He will try to keep up the pace when the Browns host Oakland in Week 8.

Stick a fork in Andrew Hawkins

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(10/14/14) Browns wide receiver Andrew Hawkins was shut out Week 6 against Pittsburgh, going without a catch only a week after disappointing with three catches for 26 yards.

At least in that game, he had his usual share of the targets. In Week 6, he got only two.

Granted, quarterback Brian Hoyer attempted only 17 passes, so no Browns receiver had his usual number of targets. But that's beside the point. The reason you owned Hawkins in Fantasy wasn't because of his big-play ability or red-zone prowess. It was because he was consistent, catching no fewer than six passes for no fewer than 70 yards over the first three weeks. He got a pass in Week 5, but after back-to-back miserable performances, consistency is no longer his calling card.

So outside of deeper points-per-reception leagues -- maybe 16 teams or more -- I'm done with him in Fantasy.

Andrew Hawkins' role remains the same

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(10/6/14) After averaging 81.3 receiving yards in his first three games, Browns wide receiver Andrew Hawkins had only 27 Week 5 at Tennessee, but it wasn't for a lack of trying. Quarterback Brian Hoyer targeted him nine times, most on the team and not a significant drop from the first three weeks, when Hawkins averaged 10.7 targets. The diminutive wide receiver was also on the field plenty -- playing 74 percent of the team's snaps, his second-most this season -- despite the increased contributions from Taylor Gabriel and Travis Benjamin.

So fear not, Hawkins owners. The former Bengal remains Hoyer's high-percentage guy even though they connected on a low percentage of their throws in Week 5. While his lack of big-play potential makes him just a so-so option in standard Fantasy leagues, he remains a strong play in points-per-reception leagues Week 6 against Pittsburgh.

Several Browns pitch in to win in clash with the Titans

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10/5/14) Browns wide receiver Andrew Hawkins came down to earth Sunday in Tennessee, pitching in with just three catches on nine targets for 27 yards. He was one of several small contributors to the comeback win.

Another was running back Ray Agnew, who caught his first pass of the year for 12 yards. Fellow running back Terrance West rushed for 31 yards on seven tries while Isaiah Crowell totaled 19 yards on six carries.
