Hoyer has faith in Browns receiving corps
by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(7/18/14) Browns quarterback Brian Hoyer said he's confident in the team's receivers even if Josh Gordon is suspended for the year as expected, reports the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

"Yeah, no doubt," he said. "I look at the guys that we have and I've talked about the guys I throw with but you throw in Nate Burleson, Anthony Armstrong -- I was shocked to know that he didn't play last year,'' said Hoyer. "If you watched him in our spring, he was awesome. Not to mention our tight ends and our skill guys. I feel really confident with who we have and going forward we know that we have what it takes to win games. We know that the guys that are on this team right now are what we're going to have for this season and that's what we're going with, and I feel confident with what we have."

Hoyer's top targets sans Gordon will be tight end Jordan Cameron and receivers Miles Austin, Andrew Hawkins, Burleson and Armstrong.

Andrew Hawkins 'putting on a clinic'
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(6/3/14) Browns receiver Andrew Hawkins has been burning defenders during OTAs and "putting on a clinic each day," according to the team's website. "Hawkins comes out here, is one of the hardest workers," said coach Mike Pettine. "Doesn’t know any speed other than full speed. He’s a guy that is truly trying to get better."

Hawkins has shown great footwork and quickness while developing noticeable chemistry with quarterback Brian Hoyer, the report said.

Browns have plan at wide receiver
by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(5/10/14) Even though Josh Gordon is facing a possible one-year suspension for failing a drug test and Nate Burleson (arm) is not certain for training camp, the Browns aren't hitting the panic button with their receiver position, reports ESPN.

The Browns have no plans to alter their draft board and select a receiver. So far in the draft, the team has selected cornerback Justin Gilbert, quarterback Johnny Manziel, guard Joel Bitonio, linebacker Christian Kirksey and running back Terrance West through the first three rounds.

They have two more picks Saturday barring a trade in Round 4 and Round 7, but general manager Ray Famrer isn't worried.

"We play games in September," Farmer said. "Right now there's still plenty of opportunities for us to acquire players and to make things happen."

If Gordon is out, the Browns would have Greg Little, Andrew Hawkins and Burleson, assuming he's healthy, as their top receivers heading into the season. Farmer believes he can still address the situation.

"Whether it’s trades, drafting someone the [third] day, players that get cut or we acquire somebody from the street," Farmer said "there's always opportunities to acquire players."

Johnny Manziel becomes a Fantasy sleeper as a Brown
by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(5/8/14) One of the reasons Johnny Manziel was such a spectacular player in college was because he was able to extend a play and throw to a big receiver down the field. Landing with the Browns is a total win for Johnny Football because he'll have Josh Gordon, Jordan Cameron, Greg Little and Nate Burleson as down-field targets along with Andrew Hawkins as a quick, short-area weapon. Ben Tate rumbling in the backfield doesn't hurt either.

Another impressive factor is the Browns O-line, which has two studs in left tackle Joe Thomas and center Alex Mack. If the line can improve from last season (we're looking at you, Mitchell Schwartz), then Manziel will have time to make good throws.

Of all the places he could have gone in the draft, Cleveland's the best fit. Not only should he inject life into the franchise but he should end up starting in Week 1 against the Steelers. Expect Manziel to get taken late in every single seasonal draft as a combo backup Fantasy QB/sleeper who could get some serious trade value. He'll get picked in the middle rounds in dynasty/keeper leagues and should be considered a Top 5 choice in rookie-only drafts.
Andrew Hawkins 'ready to bust out of his shell'
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(4/23/14) New Browns receiver Andrew Hawkins, who wasn't used much in Cincinnati, "is ready to bust out of his shell," according to the team's website. "The extra attention Josh Gordon and Jordan Cameron automatically command will leave large chunks of the field open for the taking," the report said.

New offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan likes to call wide receiver screens, a play Hawkins can exploit. After catching just 86 passes in three seasons in Cincinnati, Hawkins will get a chance to prove "he’s more than just a pinch hitter" in Cleveland, the website said.
