Malcolm Smith on interception tear
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(2/3/14) Super Bowl MVP Malcolm Smith did not intercept a pass in his first 43 regular-season or playoff games, notes the Seattle Times. Since Week 16 vs. Arizona, Smith has four interceptions in the past five games.

On Sunday, Smith became the first player to return an interception for a touchdown and recover a fumble in the same Super Bowl. His 69-yard interception return for a touchdown was the fourth-longest in Super Bowl history.

The Seahawks linebacker also made 10 tackles, tied for the team lead.

Unheralded Seahawks come up big
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(2/3/14) Coach Pete Carroll said Monday that it was striking to see some of the lesser-known Seahawks make big plays in the Super Bowl.

"I think it was extraordinary last night to see Jermaine Kearse score a touchdown and Doug Baldwin score a touchdown, and [linebacker] Malcolm Smith gets in the end zone and scoops up another fumble," Carroll said. "Guys that are not the heralded guys coming in competed in our program and found a way to contribute in enormous ways."

Kearse had a 23-yard touchdown catch, Baldwin a 10-yard scoring reception. Smith won MVP honors after returning an interception 69 yards for a touchdown and tying for the team lead with 10 tackles.

Seahawks show they have 'one of the best defenses ever'
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(2/2/14) After the Seahawks dismantled Denver's high-powered offense, defensive end Michael Bennett summed up the performance: "Our defense is one of the best defenses ever," he said. "No offense can play with us."

The Seahawks DST opened the game with a safety when an errant snap went out of the end zone. The unit did not allow a first down in the first quarter. It forced four turnovers and scored twice -- on linebacker Malcolm Smith's 69-yard interception return and Percy Harvin's 87-yard kickoff return.

Seattle held Denver to 1.9 yards per carry and rattled Peyton Manning into his worst performance of the season. Smith, safety Kam Chancellor and middle linebacker Bobby Wagner shared the team lead with 10 tackles, and defensive end Chris Clemons registered the game's only sack.

Malcolm Smith named Super Bowl MVP
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(2/2/14) The Seahawks' Malcolm Smith became the third linebacker ever to be named Super Bowl MVP. Smith returned a second-quarter interception 69 yards for a touchdown and recovered a fumble in the third quarter.

Smith made 10 tackles, tied for the team lead, as the Seahawks defense dominated throughout the 43-8 win.

Malcolm Smith brings big-play reputation to Super Bowl
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(1/29/14) Seahawks linebacker Malcolm Smith has carved out a reputation for making big plays, reports the Seattle Times. His interception, off Richard Sherman's deflection, sealed the NFC Championship Game win. And his interception return for a touchdown sparked the Week 17 win over the Rams.

“He can step in at any of the [linebacker] positions and he’s as good or better than the guy in front of him,” linebackers coach Ken Norton said of Smith, a nominal reserve who started 14 regular-season games due to injuries.
