Devonta Freeman gets 11 carries Thursday
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(9/19/14) Falcons running back Devonta Freeman got 11 carries Thursday against the Buccaneers.

Freeman got most of his work after Steven Jackson was taken out of the game. Freeman did little to distinguish himself, though the Bucs defense was basically selling out against the run. Freeman gained just 12 yards on his 11 carries. He caught one pass for 7 yards.

Freeman will take on the Vikings Week 4.

Antone Smith, Devonta Freeman hardly factor
by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(9/14/14) While all four Falcons running backs got a chance to shine Week 1 against New Orleans, only starter Steven Jackson and Jacquizz Rodgers got any carries Week 2 at Cincinnati. Both Antone Smith and Devonta Freeman saw some time on the field, but strictly as pass-catchers. Each was targeted four times, with Smith catching two passes for 19 yards and Freeman catching two for 22.

Both will look to make more of an impact Thursday night against the Buccaneers.

Devonta Freeman looks like fourth option
by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(9/7/14) Though Devonta Freeman made the most of the opportunities he got -- showing some especially nifty moves to turn what seemed like a short gain into an improbable a first down on third-and-12 late in the third quarter, setting up the Falcons' first touchdown -- he appeared to be only fourth in the pecking order in what's shaping up to be a crowded rushing attack.

Freeman looked this preseason like he'd be the one to challenge Steven Jackson for the starting role, but he finished with just four touches -- two carries for 15 yards and two catches for 18. By comparison, Jackson had 13 touches. Jacquizz Rodgers and Antone Smith were in the ballpark with seven and three, respectively, but each scored a touchdown, Rodgers on a 17-yard run and Smith on a 54-yard catch.

Freeman will look to make more of an impact Week 2 at Cincinnati.

Devonta Freeman's playing time tied to Steven Jackson's
by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(9/2/14) Falcons running back Devonta Freeman had a strong preseason filling in for Steven Jackson, rushing 32 times for 134 yards and catching 11 passes for 146, but with Jackson talking like his hamstring is ready go, telling the team's official website "I'm extremely excited for Week 1," Freeman may not have a big role in the season opener against the Saints.

The matchup is favorable enough. The Saints ranked 19th against the run last year, allowing 111.6 yards per game. They also allowed 4.6 yards per carry, fifth-most in the league. Jackson had two of his better games against the Saints last year, picking up 122 total yards in the first and 79 total yards in the second, so owners in deeper leagues may still want to consider Freeman in the hope Jackson's hamstring limits him.

But judging by Jamey Eisenberg's and Dave Richard's rankings, owners in standard leagues won't have much use for him. Neither ranks him as a top 48 running back for this week.

Devonta Freeman racks up 44 yards of total offense
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(8/23/14) Falcons running back Devonta Freeman got some work with the first unit Saturday night against the Titans.

Freeman played all three snaps on a three-and-out on the third series for Atlanta in the second quarter. On the second play of that drive, he came down with a 10-yard pass from Matt Ryan. He played the entire game and finished with four carries for 11 yards, averaging 2.8 yards per attempt. He caught all four of his targets for 33 yards.
