Devonta Freeman racks up 44 yards of total offense
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(8/23/14) Falcons running back Devonta Freeman got some work with the first unit Saturday night against the Titans.

Freeman played all three snaps on a three-and-out on the third series for Atlanta in the second quarter. On the second play of that drive, he came down with a 10-yard pass from Matt Ryan. He played the entire game and finished with four carries for 11 yards, averaging 2.8 yards per attempt. He caught all four of his targets for 33 yards.
Falcons use Devonta Freeman as third running back again
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(8/17/14) Rookie running back Devonta Freeman was the third back used by the Falcons in Saturday's preseason loss to the Texans. Just like in the preseason opener, Freeman came in after Jacquizz Rodgers and Antone Smith.

But Freeman played well for the second straight week, gaining 31 yards on six carries (5.2 ypc) and catching his only target for 11 yards. Starter Steven Jackson (hamstring) sat out for the second straight week.

Jacquizz Rodgers, Antone Smith work ahead of Devonta Freeman in preseason opener
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(8/8/14) With Steven Jackson sidelined, Falcons running back Jacquizz Rodgers and Antone Smith both worked ahead of rookie runner Devonta Freeman during Friday's preseason opener against Miami.

Rodgers got the start and made his impact felt on the opening drive, which ended on a 2-yard touchdown run. He rushed for 20 yards and a touchdown on seven carries, averaging 2.9 yards per carry. He was not targeted in the passing game.

Antone Smith broke free for a 76-yard touchdown in the second series with the second-team offense, but had the play called back because of a holding penalty. He finished with three carries for 5 yards and one catch for 5 yards.

Freeman made his first appearance early in the second quarter and did not disappoint. The rookie totaled 107 yards of offense in his first preseason game. He rushed for 50 yards on 10 carries and caught one of his two targeted passes for 57 yards.
Devonta Freeman 'on the right track'
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(8/7/14) Falcons offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter said he likes the potential of rookie running back Devonta Freeman, but added it's "too early to say" if Freeman can carry the load as a featured running back.

"Devonta is coming along fine," Koetter said, per The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "He runs hard, is eager, is willing, does not back down from anything. He can catch the ball, strong hands, fast. He’s got all of the qualities. It’s just he’s a rookie in the NFL and he’s going to go through some growing pains."

Koetter said pass blocking is one area Freeman needs improvement.

"I think that’s the biggest adjustment for a running back going from college to the NFL," Koetter said. "He had a great college career but teams try to test rookie running backs. They’ve got those big outside linebackers. There’s a lot of protections, there’s a lot of calls. There’s a learning curve. He’s on the right track."

Devonta Freeman impressing at Falcons camp
by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(7/31/14) Falcons rookie running back Devonta Freeman seems to be taking advantage of the reps he's been getting thus far in training camp, more than what he expected given the hamstring injury to Steven Jackson. Freeman has shown flashes that prove he can be an every-down back, according to ESPN.

"He's a good back, young back, fresh legs," Falcons running backs coach Gerald Brown said about Freeman. "He has good agility. I think he's going to be a really good receiver for us. And I think at the end of the day, he's going to be a good football player for us."

Freeman was the second-leading rusher for FSU in 2013, rolling for 1,016 yards on 173 carries (5.9 yards per carry) and 14 touchdowns on the ground.
