Ryan Shazier as good as advertised
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(8/17/14) Steelers first-round pick Ryan Shazier made a smashing preseason debut Saturday night. The linebacker out of Ohio State had nine tackles and an interception, prompting fellow linebacker Lawrence Timmons to describe his performance as "awesome," per NFL.com.

Shazier missed the preseason opener with a knee issue. He came out on fire Saturday, making four tackles on Buffalo's opening drive and a solo tackle on the ensuing kickoff.

Steelers will be down four players in preseason opener
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(8/9/14) The Steelers issued a list of four players who will not be in uniform for the team's first preseason game Saturday against the Giants. The following players will sit out the opener:  Ryan Shazier, Michael Palmer, Darrius Heyward-Bey and Steve McLendon.
Ryan Shazier looks like a Day 1 fit with Steelers
by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(7/24/14) It appears that rookie linebacker Ryan Shazier will fit in with the Steelers starting unit right away. Shazier worked with the first-team defense in the spring and didn't look lost according to ESPN. He's sorely needed on a defense that uncharacteristically struggled to slow down the run in 2013.

"He understands concepts very well," linebackers coach Keith Butler said. "He reminds me a lot of Larry Foote in terms of football intelligence, and he's a very sharp guy."

Steelers sign Ryan Shazier
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(6/6/14) The Steelers signed first-round pick Ryan Shazier, a linebacker out of Ohio State, to a four-year deal. Shazier has been taking first-team reps at OTAs and aims to become the first rookie to start for coordinator Dick LeBeau in 15 years.
Steelers like the potential of Ryan Shazier
by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(5/9/14) When the Steelers chose Ryan Shazier with their first-round pick, they got a player who they believed in as a difference maker, not necessarily a guy that filled a need.

"We can never have enough good players at any one position," general manager Kevin Colbert said. "Again, this kid is talented and unique. He's going to continue to grow and his ability to make plays laterally in the backfield as tackles for losses I think that is very important for today's defenses. One thing, it gives coach [Dick] LeBeau and coach [Mike] Tomlin another option defensively. I mean, you think about the inside rush possibilities with him, Lawrence [Timmons] and Troy [Polamalu] and whoever else we add to the mix, it will be exciting."

Shazier should get on the field pretty quickly for the Steelers -- and not come off of it. After totaling over 100 tackles in each of his last two college seasons (which are seasons of 12 and 14 games, not 16 like the NFL) and posting at least 5.0 sacks and four passes defensed in each of those seasons, there is no telling just how well he'll perform for your Fantasy teams. Shazier has legitimate Top 20 Fantasy linebacker potential. He's worth a pick just after the midway point of your drafts in seasonal and long-term leagues. He's also a second-round pick in rookie-only drafts.
