|Jason Verrett targeting game action before season opener |
|by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com|
(8/15/14) Mike McCoy has speculated that Chargers rookie cornerback and first-round pick Jason Verrett will return to action before the Sept. 8 regular season opener, per the San Diego Union-Tribune.
McCoy certainly hopes that's the case. He would like Verrett, who is coming off shoulder surgery, to experience NFL game speed before the regular season begins.
"You want him to play full speed," McCoy said. "...It's the live action. That's the way the game is played. You'd love to see him play in a full-speed environment to where he has to make an adjustment on the run, (defensive backs coach Ron Milus) on the sideline running and screaming certain things. They got to go out and play."

(5/25/14) Chargers first-round pick Jason Verrett, a cornerback out of TCU, isn't practicing as he recovers from shoulder surgery, reports the San Diego Union-Tribune. There are conflicting reports about when Verrett will be ready.
The paper said the team expects Verrett to be healthy around the start of training camp, but an unidentified general manager told ESPN.com that Verrett might miss the season's first few weeks.
|Jason Verrett might not help much in Fantasy |
|by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer|
(5/9/14) Jason Verrett was a strong, solid, productive cornerback at TCU who should contribute right away with the Chargers. That's because the team has very few appealing cornerbacks on their roster as it stands. Verrett had nine interceptions and 41 passes defensed in three years of collegiate play with a nominal tackle total, so he can deliver some good, not great, numbers. A shoulder injury from 2013 is a red flag as well.
Like most cornerbacks, Verrett isn't expected to put up a ton of tackle totals, making him pale in comparison to other defensive backs. He'll get drafted with a late-round pick on him in dynasty/keeper formats and a late-round pick in rookie-only drafts, too.

(5/8/14) With the No. 25 pick in the NFL Draft, the Chargers selected cornerback Jason Verrett from TCU.
Verrett is 5-foot-10, 189 pounds. He was the co-Defensive Player of the Year in 2013, and he finished his collegiate career with nine interceptions.
Verrett has the chance to start right away for the Chargers, but he is most likely a slot corner. This was a need position for the Chargers, and he should help the Chargers DST in 2014.
|The Chargers drafted cornerback Jason Verrett in the first round of the NFL Draft from TCU, and he's expected to start right away as at least the slot corner. He is coming off shoulder surgery, but he's expected to be fine for the start of training camp. Keep an eye on his recovery, but Verrett has minimal Fantasy value in IDP leagues as a rookie this year. He did have nine interceptions in his career at TCU, but his tackle totals likely won't be high enough to warrant use in most formats.
