Report: Kitna to retire
(1/13/12) The Dallas Morning News reports that QB Jon Kitna has informed the Cowboys that he intends to retire. A lingering back injury forced Kitna onto injured reserve in 2011. Stephen McGee is slated to be the Cowboys backup quarterback going forward.
Kitna's career comes to a close?
(12/14/11) The Cowboys placed QB Jon Kitna (back) on IR on Wednesday. WR Dwayne Harris was elevated to the active roster to take Kitna's spot.
Kitna could be out for season
(11/28/11) Cowboys Jason Garrett told reporters on Monday that QB Jon Kitna will likely miss a few more games and possibly even the rest of the season coach due to his back injury. Kitna, who is set to retire at the end of the season, was missed Dallas' last two games due to his ailment. The Cowboys play the Cardinals in Week 13.
Kitna sees first action of year
(9/19/11) Dallas QB Jon Kitna played the majority of the third quarter on Sunday against San Francisco after Tony Romo was forced out of the game for a bit with a fractured rib. Kitna completed 6 of his 10 passes for 87 yards. He hit Miles Austin for a 5-yard touchdown strike, but also threw two interceptions. Romo replaced him in the fourth quarter and Kitna's day was done. Dallas ended up winning the game, 27-24, in overtime.
Kitna to remain in No. 2 role
(5/23/11) The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that Cowboys QB Stephen McGee is the future backup to Tony Romo, but he will again be No. 3 in 2011 with Jon Kitna coming back. The Cowboys expressed their faith in McGee by not taking a quarterback in this year's draft. Kitna, who turns 39 in September, is not long for the job, leaving McGee as the apparent future backup to Tony Romo.
