WRs Sammy Watkins, Marquise Goodwin practice in full
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10/1/14) Bills wideouts Sammy Watkins and Marquise Goodwin were both full participants in Wednesday practice despite nagging injuries.

Watkins, who snagged second NFL touchdown pass last Sunday, is still dealing with a rib injury. Goodwin (concussion) has no receptions this season after totaling 17 a year ago.

Lions represent tough test for Sammy Watkins
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10/1/14) The Lions have been able to clamp down on opposing passing games so far, which does not bode well for Bills receiver Sammy Watkins' chances of thriving with new quarterback Kyle Orton in Week 5.

The Lions have allowed just two wide receivers to rack up double-digit Fantasy points through four games, and have held big names like Randall Cobb, Jordy Nelson, Victor Cruz and Kelvin Benjamin to five points or fewer in their matchups. In fact, Eric Decker is the only No. 1 receiver to find the end zone against the Lions, who have done a good job locking them up otherwise.

We are hoping the switch from EJ Manuel to Orton at quarterback opens up the Bills passing game, but we might not see the results of that right away. Watkins' upside got higher with this move, but Week 5 represents a tough enough matchup that he should be considered a risky starting option in most Fantasy formats.

Sammy Watkins likely helped by QB change
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(9/29/14) Bills rookie receiver Sammy Watkins has gotten off to a rocky start to his NFL career, which is to be expected given how difficult life can be for rookie wide receivers. And he hasn't been helped much by the lackluster play of EJ Manuel, who was officially replaced as the starting quarterback by Kyle Orton Monday.

Orton has started just one game over the last two seasons, when he threw for 358 yards for the Cowboys in Week 17 a year ago. And, the good news for Watkins is, he made liberal usage of his No. 1 receiver Dez Bryant in that game, as the duo connected eight times for 99 yards and a touchdown.

There is a reason Orton is a backup at this point in his career, but there is also a reason the Bills brought in competition for Manuel in the first place. The second-year passer has looked Watkins' way 32 times, but mostly on short passes, which has been his Mo. -- no quarterback has picked up a larger share of his yards after the catch than Manuel's 65.5 percent mark. By comparison, 55.6 percent of Orton's yards in 2011 came through the air. At the very least, this change should allow the team to unleash Watkins a bit more.

Watkins will continue to have his ups and downs, but this should increase his ceiling moving forward. With how much of a focal point the Bills have made him, he remains someone Fantasy owners want to keep on the roster. Whether he will be worth using on a weekly basis remains to be seen.

Boom-or-bust Sammy Watkins returns
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(9/28/14) Rookie wide receivers often struggle to make an impact, so it should come as no surprise that Bills receiver Sammy Watkins has had an inconsistent start to his NFL career.

Watkins fell short of double figures in Fantasy scoring for the third time in four games Sunday, despite scoring his second career touchdown. That is because he had just four receptions for 30 yards, his third game with fewer than 40 yards.

Watkins remains the team's best receiver, and has been targeted an impressive 32 times in four games. That should continue, which makes him a threat to go off in any given week. However, the subpar quarterback play will only exacerbate Watkins' inconsistency, making him tough to rely on in any given week.

Sammy Watkins reaches end zone in Week 4 loss
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(9/28/14) Bills wide receiver Sammy Watkins caught just four of his nine targets for 30 yards Sunday but managed to record a five-yard touchdown in his team's 23-17 loss to the Texans in Week 4.

Watkins dropped his first two targets of the game but made up for it by hanging on to the ball on a pass across the middle in the red zone and crossing into the end zone for his second touchdown of the season. Watkins exploded for 117 yards on eight receptions in Week 2 but hasn't topped 31 yards in any of his other three games. He'll try and do just that when the Bills head to Detroit in Week 5.
