Jace Amaro trying to figure things out
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(7/30/14) Jets rookie tight end Jace Amaro had another rough practice Wednesday, reports ESPN.com. He ran some plays wrong, dropped a pass and got razzed by a defensive player. He also "got an earful from offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg," the report said.

Amaro played in a relatively simple offense in college and is struggling to learn the Jets' system.

"We know he's got the physical skills to do it," coach Rex Ryan told the website. "He's got to focus, and sometimes if your head is in other places and you're thinking (too much), it's hard to be at your best."

Jace Amaro has knee tendinitis
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(7/27/14) Jets rookie tight end Jace Amaro is dealing with knee tendinitis but is expected to be on the field when the team resumes practice Tuesday, reports ESPN.com. Amaro was unable to finish practice Sunday.
Jace Amaro suffers apparent knee injury
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(7/27/14) Jets rookie tight end Jace Amaro suffered an apparent knee injury at Sunday's practice. According to ESPN.com, Amaro was struggling to put weight on his right knee and trainers put a heavy ice wrap on it.

The New York Daily News said the injury doesn't appear to be too serious.

Difficult transition for Jace Amaro
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(6/25/14) Rookie tight end Jace Amaro needs to make a "host" of adjustments to get comfortable in the Jets' offense, coordinator Marty Mornhinweg told ESPN.com. Amaro came from a no-huddle, spread attack at Texas Tech he described as "simple" compared to the Jets' West Coast scheme based on timing and precision.

Amaro got some work with the first team at minicamp but "looked lost at times." His routes were "sloppy," the report said. Amaro must polish route-running and work on his footwork and release when not split out wide.

The report said "this has to be a humbling process for Amaro."

Jace Amaro lining up everywhere
by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(6/16/14) Jace Amaro is still having some growing pains typical of a rookie moving into a new scheme in the pros, but the Newark Star-Ledger reports that Jets tight ends coach Steve Hagen said Amaro's making progress and is being challenged to play in a number of spots

"He's lined up everywhere," Hagen said. "He's lined up flexed out, hand down, out by himself (on the) single-receiver side, on the three-receiver side, on the two-receiver side. We use him everywhere we can use him. So we have asked him to do a lot, and we expect him to do a lot. He's asking that of himself, and he's delivering, too. It's been fun to watch him."

Hagen did warn the media that Amaro has work to do as a blocker, saying he can't just play as a receiver. The coach thinks Amaro can learn that role.
