Brandin Cooks picking things up fast
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(7/27/14) Saints rookie receiver Brandin Cooks missed offseason workouts due to Oregon State's academic calendar, but coach Sean Payton and quarterback Drew Brees say the speedster is picking up the offense fast. "He absorbs it very quickly and goes out and applies it," Brees told the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Payton said the team will find a way to keep Cooks involved offensively. "He's explosive. He's made some plays," Payton said. "There will be a handful of things we have to do to get him touches whether it is through the passing game, whether it is through handoffs or bubble screens. He has some versatility."

Brandin Cooks making good impression
by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(7/18/14) The Saints are already impressed with rookie receiver Brandin Cooks and are tallking about him as a Rookie of the Year candidate, reports ESPN.

"When you see a guy catch a pass and you see his first two steps look like he's about to run a 40-yard dash, you know that the guy is quick and fast. And when you get the ball to him and he learns what to do, there might be problems [for opposing defenses]," Saints tight end Benjamin Watson said. "And that's what we all saw from the first pass he caught. Everybody looked at each other like, 'Wow, this kid is definitely at a different speed.'"

Cornerback Keenan Lewis nicknamed his new teammate "Lightning" after Cooks torched him down the field on an end-around, even pausing to playfully let Lewis try to catch up for a moment.

Outside linebacker Junior Galette added, "I haven't seen that kind of speed in a while," which is saying an awful lot since Galette has played across the field from Darren Sproles, Reggie Bush, Joe Morgan, Robert Meachem and Devery Henderson while in New Orleans.

Brandin Cooks to spend two weeks working with Drew Brees
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(6/24/14) Saints rookie receiver Brandin Cooks, who missed a lot of offseason work due to Oregon State's late graduation, will spend two weeks this summer catching up with quarterback Drew Brees in San Diego, reports NFL.com senior analyst Gil Brandt. Brandt called Cooks a Rookie of the Year candidate.

Brees recently described Cooks as "an explosive player [with] great speed, great talent, tremendous young man, loves to learn, loves the game of football."

Brees sees a playmaker in Brandin Cooks
by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(6/18/14) Saints quarterback Drew Brees told USA Today that he believes rookie receiver Brandin Cooks can help cover the loss of Darren Sproles in the offense this season.

"Even though Darren Sproles played the running back position, we were creative with him," Brees said while mentioning all the types of passing routes they had him in. " ... That role can be filled by maybe even a receiver. Hey, we go out in the draft and get a guy in Brandin Cooks out of Oregon State -- an explosive player, great speed, great talent, tremendous young man, loves to learn, loves the game of football. ... From all indications, this guy can do a lot of things for us, and he's eager to fill a role that we need him to on offense."

Brees has watched Cooks' film and acknowledged the rookie's speed, ability to line up anywhere and make plays in space.

Drew Brees excited for Brandin Cooks
by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(5/22/14) Saints quarterback Drew Brees is excited about playing with new rookie receiver Brandin Cooks , reports ESPN.

"Yeah, it's awesome," Brees said. "I mean, we traded up to get this guy. So that tells me a lot about how we feel about this guy. Not only his talent and his skill set, but also just the type of guy he is. From all accounts, he's just a phenomenal person, a great teammate, extremely hard, tough work ethic, and just a character guy. Fits in perfect in our locker room and loves football. We love those guys."
