Defense carries Packers in Week 16

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(12/21/14) With quarterback Aaron Rodgers playing through illness, the Packers offense wasn't up to its usual standards Week 17 at Tampa Bay, but the defense responded with one of its best performances of the season, allowing a season-low three points on a season-low 99 yards. The Packers had only one takeaway, an interception by Datone Jones late in the fourth quarter, but they set a season high with seven sacks.

It was only the fifth game with double-digit Fantasy points for the Packers DST, but it's scored 20 or more in four of those games. Since it's a feast-or-famine unit, you'll want to pay close attention to the matchups with it. Week 17 against Detroit may be a bit too risky.

Packers DST short on big plays again

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(12/14/14) The Packers weren't bad defensively Week 15 at Buffalo, allowing 21 points on 253 yards, but their lack of big plays once again prevented their DST from being a real asset in Fantasy. Their three sacks were actually their most in four games, but they had just one interception and no fumble recoveries, giving them three total takeaways during that same stretch.

In the two games leading up to this disappointing four-game stretch, the Packers DST scored a combined 53 Fantasy points, but it also had seven sacks, seven takeaways and four touchdowns. More often than not, it gives up too many yards and points to survive without big plays.

Fortunately, it has an ideal matchup to get back on track Week 16 at Tampa Bay, a team that entered Week 15 having allowed the fifth-most Fantasy points per game to DSTs. The Packers DST might just be worth a shot in your league's championship game.

Packers place LB Jamari Lattimore on IR, promote Chris Banjo

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(12/13/14) The Packers have placed linebacker Jamari Lattimore (ankle) on injured reserve and promoted safety Chris Banjo from the practice squad to the 53-man active roster on Saturday, per Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports. Lattimore's 2014 campaign ends with 38 total tackles and one interceptions in 11 games played.

Packers DST suddenly not so productive

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(12/9/14) Over a six-game stretch from Week 5 to Week 11, the Packers averaged 1.5 interceptions and 3.2 sacks. They had one of each Week 14 against Atlanta, giving them a total of two interceptions and four sacks in their last three games.

Their defense underwhelmed in other ways against the Falcons, giving up 37 points on 465 yards. They hadn't allowed that many of either since Week 8 at New Orleans. Though the Packers DST has had some big performances this season, three straight games with less than double-digit Fantasy points makes it less than a sure thing even with a seemingly favorable matchup Week 15 at Buffalo.

Packers coach McCarthy: Sam Shields still has a chance to play

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(12/6/14) Packers cornerback Sam Shields was officially ruled as questionable for Monday night's game against the Falcons because of a concussion. Coach Mike McCarthy told reporters Saturday that the medical staff informed him that Shields still has a chance to play. He'll likely need to be medically cleared by the staff prior to kickoff.
