Few highlights in Vikings' strong defensive effort
by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(12/14/14) The Vikings had an impressive defensive performance Week 15 at Detroit, allowing just 16 points on 233 yards to the potentially playoff-bound Lions. But because they were lacking in big plays, recording zero sacks and zero takeaways, the performance didn't translate to much Fantasy production. Their DST scored only eight points in standard CBSSports.com leagues, down from 15 in Week 14 and 24 in Week 13.
Granted, any time a DST scores more DST scores 10 points or more, it's a solid performance in Fantasy, so the Vikings DST wasn't far off. Still, as well as the defense performed in real life, it's a bit of a letdown.
The Vikings DST is good enough to take advantage of favorable matchups, but it has a questionable one Week 16 at Miami. You wouldn't be wrong to use it in Fantasy, but be sure to weigh your alternatives.
Big plays continue to lift Vikings' DST
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(12/7/14) The Vikings DST unit continued their strong play in Week 14, in a 30-24 win over the Jets.
The Vikings defense actually struggled against a sluggish Jets offense, surrendering 410 yards of total offense. However, they forced two turnovers, including a 27-yard interception return for a touchdown to open the game, their third DST touchdown in the last two games. They added three sacks to finish the game with 15 Fantasy points in the overtime win.
The Vikings have been racking up big plays lately, and have 39 Fantasy points over the last two weeks. They will look to keep things rolling in Week 15, with a matchup against the Lions on the way.

When the Vikings hired Mike Zimmer as their new head coach, they also hired the architect of the Bengals' outstanding defense and an aggressive defensive mind. Zimmer is responsible for some solid defenses not just in Cincinnati but previously in Dallas, and he's already making his mark in Minnesota. The Vikings added beefy defensive tackle Linval Joseph, cagey cornerback Captain Munnerlyn, drafted pass rusher Anthony Barr and re-signed defensive end Everson Griffen this spring. Combine these guys with key defenders like Harrison Smith, Brian Robison and Chad Greenway and you'll recognize that this is a defense that could make a jump in 2014. Tack on Cordarrelle Patterson returning kicks and you're looking at a sleeper DST that has a nice Week 1 matchup at St. Louis (before five nightmarish matchups). You can consider them with a final-round flier in deeper leagues.
