Giants drop game to backup QB Week 2
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (9/14/14) The Giants defense did a pretty good job against Cardinals backup quarterback Drew Stanton Week 2. However, four turnovers proved costly for New York, as Arizona escaped with a 25-14 win.
The Giants gave up just 266 yards, including 142 passing yards. New York allowed just one offensive touchdown, but rookie kicker Chandler Cantanzaro booted four field goals and Ted Ginn returned a punt 71 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter, which helped fuel Arizona's win.
New York managed four sacks in the win, but it forced no turnovers. The Giants are back in action Week 3 vs. Houston.
Jon Beason needs MRI for toe injury
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (9/14/14) Giants linebacker Jon Beason left Sunday's game vs. Arizona due to a toe injury. Coach Tom Coughlin said he thinks it is the same toe injury Beason dealt with during the preseason and added Beason will get an MRI.
The Giants DST used to be a standout Fantasy option, but they aren't even a No. 1 unit coming into this season. The Giants DST were No. 16 in Fantasy points in 2013 with 34 sacks, 17 interceptions, 12 fumble recoveries and three touchdowns. Getting Jason Pierre-Paul back at 100 percent will help after he battled through a shoulder injury last year, and having Jon Beason for a full season is also a benefit. The Giants also improved their secondary with the addition of Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, which should make it tough on opposing quarterbacks with Prince Amukamara on the opposite side, but the key for this Giants defense is their pass rush. If Pierre-Paul is healthy then this unit can shine. Still, go into the season with the Giants DST as a No. 2 Fantasy option, and if they start off the season playing well add them off waivers.
