Patriots defense shuts down Lions

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(11/23/14) The Patriots had a shutdown defensive performance Week 12 against Detroit, limiting the Lions to nine points on 335 yards. They recorded two sacks and an interception, giving them four straight games with at least one of the latter.

From a Fantasy perspective, it wasn't the best the Patriots DST has played -- they didn't score a touchdown on that side of the ball, after all -- but it was a step in the right direction after the big yardage given up in recent weeks.

By now, though, a few extra yards shouldn't be enough to scare you way from the Patriots DST. It's been one of the most reliable units in Fantasy this season, making it not such a terrible play even with a difficult matchup Week 13 at Green Bay.

Special teams provides a lift in big Patriots' win

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(11/3/14) The Patriots DST unit took on a tough matchup in Week 9, but came out with a few big plays in a 43-21 win over the Broncos.

The Patriots didn't really get much pressure on Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning, registering just one sack,  but forced Manning into two interceptions anyways. However, the biggest play of the game came in the form of a special teams touchdown, as Julian Edelman broke things open wide in the second quarter with an 84-yard punt return for a score.

The Patriots ended the game with 13 Fantasy points, the first double-digit game against the Broncos all season. They are averaging 12.7 Fantasy points per game with six double-digit games in nine tries, and should be viewed as a solid starting option when they return from a Week 10 bye, even against the high-scoring Colts.

Patriots DST solid in high-scoring game

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(10/26/14) In a game that was already decided at the half, the Patriots allowed 23 points to the visiting Bears in Week 8. Of course, 16 of those points came in the second half, just like 265 of the Bears' 384 yards came in the second half -- again, with the game already decided.

Even playing at presumably less than full intensity for that half, the Patriots DST still had a strong performance in Fantasy. A touchdown by defensive lineman Rob Ninkovich on a fumble recovery just before halftime had something to do with it. The Patriots also had three sacks and an interception.

The Patriots DST has been one of the most reliable units in Fantasy this season, scoring double-digit Fantasy points in standard CBSSports.com leagues three of the last four weeks and five of the last seven. Unfortunately, it has the toughest matchup of all Week 9 against Denver, so you'll need to find a one-week replacement.

Patriots DE Chandler Jones will not need surgery

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(10/26/14) Patriots defense end Chandler Jones will not require hip surgery, but is expected to be sidelined a minimum of six weeks, according to CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora on Sunday. Jones suffered the hip injury during Week 7 against the Jets and does not have a torn labrum, according to sources.

However, the injury could keep him sidelined for the remainder of the regular season, according to the Boston Globe. He remains hopeful of returning to action in time to make a playoff run for New England.

Report: Darrelle Revis was sent home Tuesday for showing up late

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10/22/14) Patriots cornerback Darrelle Revis was not allowed to participate in practice and meetings Tuesday after coach Bill Belichick sent him home for the day since Revis arrived late to the team's facility Tuesday morning, three league sources told The Boston Globe.

One source close to the cornerback said Revis accepted responsibility for his actions. He was back at practice Wednesday. The Patriots declined to comment on the situation. The Patriots were not required to put out an injury report for Tuesday or explain any players being absent.

Belichick did not make a huge announcement to the rest of the team about sending Revis home, but one source said, "The message was definitely sent. The rules apply to everybody."
