(10/16/14) The Patriots DST has reached double digits in Fantasy points in four of six games so far this season, and has a good chance to make it five in Week 7 against the Jets.
The Jets offense has been a disaster recently, with opposing Fantasy DST units averaging 17.8 Fantasy points per game against them. So, even if the Patriots weren't already third in Fantasy scoring, they would be worth using against this reeling offense. Throw in the fact that the game is being played on a Thursday and a weather report that indicates plenty of rain in the area, and there is little reason not to start the Patriots.
The Patriots should be considered a must-start Fantasy DST unit for Week 7.
Report: Patriots LB Jerod Mayo expected to miss rest of season
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(10/13/14) The knee injury suffered by Patriots linebacker Jerod Mayo in Week 6 against the Bills has turned out to be as serious as it looked. Mayo is expected to miss the remainder of the season after being carted off with a lower right leg injury that multiple sources say "is bad," ESPN's Adam Schefter reports on Monday.
He was on pace for his first 100-plus tackle season since 2012. His season ends with 53 combined tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery.
Bittersweet afternoon for Patriots DST
by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(10/13/14) The Patriots DST had another strong showing Week 6 at Buffalo, limiting the Bills to 22 points on 336 yards. The Patriots had five sacks, one interception and two fumble recoveries. In standard CBSSports.com leagues, they've now scored double-digit Fantasy points in four of the last five weeks, with the one exception being a 41-point outburst by the Chiefs in Week 4.
They did suffer a big loss, though, when linebacker Jerod Mayo left in the second quarter with what looked like a serious knee injury. His loss doesn't ruin the Patriots DST for Fantasy purposes, but it does change the dynamic a bit.
Fortunately, their matchup in Week 7 should make the transition easier. They're hosting the Jets, who've allowed the fifth-most Fantasy points per game to DSTs this season.

The Patriots DST has the potential to be great in 2014, and the additions of Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner could give them a dominant secondary. New England lost Aqib Talib to the Broncos this offseason, but getting Revis and Browner is a huge upgrade. The Patriots also get Jerod Mayo (pectoral), Vince Wilfork (Achilles) and Tommy Kelly (ACL) back from injury, along with drafting defensive tackle Dominique Easley in the first round, and they should be able to improve on their No. 12 finish in Fantasy points from 2013. The Patriots had 17 interceptions, 48 sacks, 12 fumble recoveries and three defensive touchdowns last year, which was the third time in the past four seasons that they were a Top 12 Fantasy unit. Go into the season with the Patriots as a Top 10 Fantasy option, and they are worth drafting with a late-round pick. They could emerge as a Top 5 option, especially with a great secondary in a division against erratic quarterbacks like Ryan Tannehill, Michael Vick/Geno Smith and EJ Manuel.
