Drew Stanton comes back down to earth

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(11/24/14) If Drew Stanton's performance Week 11 against Detroit, when he threw for 306 yards and two touchdowns, got Fantasy owners thinking the Cardinals wouldn't really miss Carson Palmer at quarterback, his performance Week 12 at Seattle was a dose of reality. He threw for just 149 yards and an interception.

Granted, it was against one of the league's best defenses, but still, it was closer to what you'd expect from a career backup. So in five starts between two different injuries for Palmer, Stanton has had two games in which he's offered relevant Fantasy production. In the other three, he's fallen well short -- perhaps even embarrassingly short considering his receiving corps.

When ranking all 32 starting quarterbacks for Fantasy purposes, he may not be at the very bottom, but he's not far off. Most likely, even owners in two-quarterback leagues will want to pass on him.

Cardinals QB Carson Palmer goes under the knife

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(11/18/14) Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer underwent surgery Tuesday to repair his ACL, according to the team's official website. Palmer suffered the injury Week 10 against the Rams and was waiting for the swelling on his knee to go down before having the procedure.

Palmer, who signed a three-year extension with the Cardinals worth $50 million in total just two days before sustaining another season-ending injury, is expected to have a long road back in his rehabilitation process. He is targeting a return at some point near the end of Arizona's OTAs in June.

Drew Stanton throws for career-high 306 yards, two TDs

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(11/16/14) Cardinals quarterback Drew Stanton completed 21 of 32 throws for a career-high 306 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions in the Week 11 win over the Lions. Stanton threw touchdowns to wideout Michael Floyd on Arizona's first two possessions before bogging down against the league's top-ranked defense.

On the opening drive, Stanton threw high to the corner of the end zone and let Floyd box out his defender for a 42-yard score. The second touchdown was a well-timed 12-yard out route.

Stanton has thrown five touchdowns against two interceptions in five games this season. He'll visit Seattle in Week 12.

New starter Drew Stanton has not committed a turnover

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(11/10/14) The Cardinals will go with quarterback Drew Stanton the rest of the season, and he says he's ready for the job. In the four games in which he's appeared, Stanton has thrown for 614 yards and three touchdowns without an interception or a lost fumble.

The only blemish is his 49.5 percent completion rate.

"It's an opportunity I've been looking forward to for a long time," he told the team's website after Carson Palmer was placed on IR with a torn ACL. "It's been eight years that I've been working toward this, so I don't take it lightly. It comes under unfortunate circumstances, without a doubt, but it's also, like I was saying [Sunday], part of my job description."

Coach Bruce Arians said Stanton has "proven to everybody he's more than capable of finishing the job this team has started."

Stanton plays the Lions' top-ranked defense in Week 11.

Cardinals QB Carson Palmer headed to IR with torn ACL

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(11/10/14) Cardinals coach Bruce Arians confirmed quarterback Carson Palmer's injury during Monday's press conference. Palmer will miss the remainder of the 2014 season with a torn ACL and will be placed on the injured reserve list, per the team's official website.

Palmer signed a three-year extension with the Cardinals worth $50 million in total, just two days before sustaining another season-ending injury. Arians told reporters that his starting quarterback did not suffer any other ligament damage, which means he is expected to be ready for the start of the 2015 season. He is expected to undergo surgery in a "couple of weeks" once the swelling on his knee goes down.
