Ravens QB Joe Flacco has modest afternoon in Week 10 win

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(11/9/14) The Ravens didn't need a huge performance from quarterback Joe Flacco to sneak past the Titans Week 10. Flacco completed 16 of 27 passes for 169 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in a 21-7 win.

Running back Justin Forsett was the star on offense for Baltimore, rushing for 112 yards and two touchdowns. Flacco didn't get his only touchdown until he connected with Torrey Smith for a 32-yard score early in the fourth quarter.

Sunday was the fifth time Flacco had one or no passing touchdowns this season. He has failed to surpass 200 passing yards three times this season, including twice in the last three games.

The Ravens are on a bye Week 11 before returning to action Week 12 at New Orleans.

Joe Flacco still tough to rely on

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(11/7/14) Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco has had a bit of an up-and-down right recently, a trend that could continue in Week 10 against the Titans.

Flacco had 22 Fantasy points against the Steelers last week, his third with at least 18 over the last five games. However, he also has games of just 4 and 8 Fantasy points in that stretch, and is going up against an above-average Titans pass defense Sunday.

The Titans are averaging an interception per game this season, and opposing quarterbacks have just three more passing touchdowns than turnovers through eight games. They are allowing 18.5 Fantasy points per game to passers, the 13th-lowest figure in the league.

Inconsistency has defined Flacco throughout his career, so it shouldn't be much of a surprise that he has been up and down recently. He might have a good week, but Fantasy owners can probably find better matchups for Week 10 to rely on.

As Steve Smith goes, so goes Joe Flacco

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(11/3/14) Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco's biggest games this season, at least in terms of yardage, were Weeks 1, 4 and 6. Not so coincidentally, those were also wide receiver Steve Smith's biggest games. He had seven catches for 118 yards and a touchdown Week 1 against Cincinnati, seven catches for 139 yards and two touchdowns Week 4 against Carolina and five catches for 110 yards and a touchdown Week 6 at Tampa Bay.

He had five catches for 36 yards Week 9 at Pittsburgh, when Flacco had his fourth-best game in terms of yardage, finishing with 303. But while Flacco had three and five touchdown passes in Weeks 4 and 6, respectively, he had only two in this one. Yes, with his team trailing 22-10 after two quarters and every incentive to air it out in the second half, the best he could do is 303 yards and two touchdowns.

Why not better? He didn't get Smith involved, or at least the two didn't hook up downfield like they did with regularity at the beginning of the season. Smith's speed makes him a threat to score every time he touches the ball, and Flacco benefited from that as much as Smith himself in Weeks 1, 4 and 6. But when Smith fails to deliver, Flacco is limited to numbers somewhere in the Brian Hoyer range.

At wide receiver, you can put up with Smith's inconsistencies because it's to be expected for any player outside of the top tier, but at quarterback, with all the depth at the position, you need a consistent, reliable performer. And Flacco isn't it.

Joe Flacco showing his true colors

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(10/26/14) When Joe Flacco threw five touchdown passes Week 6 at Tampa Bay, I was one of those he believed he might be on the verge of a career season, buying the chemistry between him and new wide receiver Steve Smith and believing the Ravens would continue to use Justin Forsett as more of a pass catcher.

The two games since then have shown I couldn't have been more wrong.

Not that he was so bad in Week 7, but against the Falcons defense, a 1-to-1 touchdown-to-interception ratio is nothing to celebrate. And then came the disaster of Week 8 at Cincinnati, when he completed just 50 percent of his passes for 195 yards and two interceptions.

That's two touchdowns to four interceptions with an average of 226.5 yards in two games -- hardly the makings of a career season.

Of course, these last two games have been two of Smith's quietest, which probably isn't a coincidence. He certainly has more 100-yard performances in his future, and Flacco will benefit from those. But with so much depth at quarterback, Flacco's inconsistencies make him little more than a bye-week replacement in Fantasy.

Joe Flacco throws for two TDs in Ravens' Week 7 win

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10/19/14) Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco threw two touchdowns and two interceptions during a 29-7 win Week 7 vs. Atlanta. Flacco completed 16 of 25 passes for 258 yards, while rushing for 4 yards on one carry.

Flacco got off to a quick start Sunday, as he finished off the team's opening drive with a 5-yard touchdown pass to Owen Daniels. While the Ravens built a 17-0 halftime lead, Flacco didn't get his second touchdown pass until the team's final offensive drive in the fourth quarter. On a fourth-and-9 with 1:46 left, Flacco connected with Torrey Smith for a 39-yard touchdown.

Flacco came close to a three-touchdown game Sunday, but he was intercepted in the end zone on a third-and-9 play from the Falcons' 16-yard line late in the third quarter.

The Ravens are back in action Week 8 at Cincinnati.
