Bills QB Kyle Orton throws for two TDs in losing effort Week 6

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10/12/14) Bills quarterback Kyle Orton threw for a pair of touchdowns Sunday against the Patriots. However, counterpart Tom Brady threw for four touchdowns, leading New England to a 37-22 win Week 6.

Orton completed 24 of 38 passes for 299 yards and one touchdown. He was able to tie the game at 7 in the second quarter with a 7-yard touchdown pass to Robert Woods. His second touchdown pass came with 5:58 left in the fourth quarter. It was an 8-yard touchdown to Chris Hogan, which cut the deficit to 30-22.

Orton, who also lost a fumble Sunday, has passed for 607 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions in two games since taking over as the team's starting quarterback. The Bills are back in action Week 7 vs. Minnesota.

Lions could give Kyle Orton a rude welcome

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(9/29/14) Bills quarterback Kyle Orton won't exactly be getting the softest landing when he makes his first start in Week 5, with the Lions on the schedule.

Detroit's defense has done an excellent job against quarterbacks this season, allowing just 12.5 Fantasy points per game, the third-lowest mark in the league. Opposing passers have yet to register a multiple touchdown game against the Lions, with only Cam Newton notching better than 12 Fantasy points against them.

The Lions feature one of the league's best defensive lines, and have racked up 10 sacks through four games, good for fifth in the league. Fortunately, this should at least be one place where strength matches up against strength for the Bills, as they have allowed just six sacks in four games.

This won't be an easy way for Orton's time as the Bills' starter to begin, especially since the Lions also stop the run very well. He has some weapons around him, but Orton could struggle at first, and probably doesn't have much upside as a short-term Fantasy option.

Bills to start Kyle Orton over EJ Manuel in Week 5

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(9/29/14) Bills head coach Doug Marrone told reporters in his Monday press conference that the team will start Kyle Orton over EJ Manuel at quarterback for Week 5 at Detroit, per the team's official website.

After starting the season 0-2, Manuel and the Bills have dropped back-to-back games. Over that span, he compiled 463 passing yards with a 3-to-2 touchdown-to-interception ratio. He was sacked five times over that two-game stretch.

"It wasn't all EJ's fault. We just need more overall production from that position," Marrone said, via WGR Sportsradio 550.

After being released by the Cowboys in July and contemplating retirement, Orton signed with the Bills at the end of the preseason. It will be Orton's first start since Week 17 of last season.

Bills RB doesn't believe benching EJ Manuel will resolve issues

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(9/29/14) After opening the season 2-0, the Bills have dropped two straight games and the calls for a change at quarterback are getting louder and louder as EJ Manuel has a quarterback rating of 80.3 through four games.

However, running back Fred Jackson said during an interview Monday with WGR Sportsradio 550 the team's struggles can't all be blamed on Manuel.

"This is a long season. It’s only Week 4," Jackson said, per the team's official website. "We can’t go into panic mode and try to change everything and revamp this and that. We have 12 games left in the season. We’ve got to respond. It’s not only on EJ to respond to the last two weeks. It’s on all of us. I can’t sit here and say all the blame goes to EJ because it doesn’t. We’ve got to get stuff done and every player on our team has to improve including myself. It’s not one of those things where I’m going to say bench EJ and put Kyle (Orton) in and it’s going to magically be better. I don’t think benching him is the right answer. I think we have to go in and re-evaluate everything that we’re doing and that’s how we’ll find the answers."

EJ Manuel practices in full Wednesday

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(9/24/14) Bills quarterback EJ Manuel was listed on the practice report Wednesday due to an abdominal injury. However, he was a full participant as the team prepares for Week 4 at Houston.

"I’m fine," Manuel said, per the team's official website. "Anytime you bring something to a trainer they have to (list it), but I’m good to go."
