Panthers' Cam Newton tosses two touchdowns in loss

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(1/10/15) Panthers quarterback Cam Newton tossed two touchdowns in the team's loss against the Seahawks.

Newton completed 23 of 36 passes for 246 yards and both scores. He was able to pull off some big plays during the contest, averaging 6.8 yards per completion. The Seattle defense did manage to put pressure on Newton quite a bit. While he was only sacked twice, Newton wound up picking up 11 rushing attempts. Some of those were designed runs, while other were a result of Newton running away from pressure. He gained 37 yards on the ground.

With the Panthers down two scores in the fourth quarter, Newton threw a back-breaking interception that basically sealed the game for the Seahawks. Newton led a strong drive, but had to rush his throw after the Seahawks defense put pressure on him. Kam Chancellor read the play well, and wound up with a 90 yard touchdown. Newton would throw a touchdown on the team's next drive, but the game was already out of hand.

Panthers' Cam Newton finds paydirt twice to take NFC South crown

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(12/28/14) Panthers quarterback Cam Newton scored a pair of touchdowns and led his team to an NFC South title in a 34-3 win over Atlanta in Week 17.

Newton found Ed Dickson for a 5-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter and broke free for a 4-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. It was his 33rd career rushing touchdown, tying John Elway, Otto Graham and Y.A. Tittle for 10th-most all time by a quarterback in league history.

Newton compiled 114 passing yards while completing 10 of 16 passes. He added one touchdown and no interceptions. He rushed for 51 yards and a score on six carries.

Newton had two rushing touchdowns through his first 11 games. He now has one in each of his last three games played. He finishes the regular season with 3,127 yards with 18 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

The Panthers will advance to the first round of the playoffs next week against Arizona.

Panthers' Rivera: Cam Newton came out of game in good health

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(12/22/14) Panthers coach Ron Rivera told reporters Monday that early indications are that quarterback Cam Newton came out of Sunday's game against the Browns in good health, per the team's official website.

Newton, who came off two small fractures in his back sustained in a car accident, completed 18 of 31 for 201 yards with one touchdown and one interception. He also rushed for 63 yards and another score on 12 attempts.

Newton and the Panthers will travel to Atlanta to face the Falcons for the NFC South title. Carolina is currently a 3 1/2-point underdog in Week 17.

Panthers QB Newton rises to occasion in Sunday win

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(12/21/14) Coming off a back injury sustained in a car accident, Panthers quarterback Cam Newton played well in the clutch to lead his team to a critical victory Sunday against the Browns.

Newton led a 66-yard touchdown drive to provide the go-ahead score, completing the job on a 9-yarder to running back Jonathan Stewart, then fired a perfect 37-yard strike to tight end Ed Dickson to clinch it. Newton completed 6 of 7 for 100 yards in the fourth quarter and finished 18 of 31 for 201 yards.

He also rushed for 63 yards on 12 attempts, including a 2-yard scramble for a touchdown off play-action late in the second quarter. His lone major mistake was a terrible decision and flutter ball that resulted in a third quarter interception.

Newton will conclude the season next Sunday at Atlanta.

Panthers waiting on doctors before naming Cam Newton starter

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(12/19/14) Panthers coach Ron Rivera told reporters he will not name a starting quarterback on Friday, but was impressed with the way Cam Newton practiced this week, per the team's official website. "We'll have a good feel tomorrow," Rivera said, who is waiting for doctors to officially clear Newton.

Newton sat out Week 15 after suffering two small fractures in his back when he was involved in a car crash 10 days ago. He's officially ruled as probable for Sunday's game against Cleveland. Carolina has moved from a 3-point to a 3 1/2-point favorite at home in Week 16.
