Jay Cutler shreds 49ers for four touchdown passes
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(9/15/14) Bears quarterback Jay Cutler played one of the finest games of his career Week 2 at San Francisco. After a ragged start, Cutler picked apart the 49ers. He hit 23 of 34 throws for 176 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions or fumbles, and he ran five times for 25 yards.

It was an unusually discplined performance for Cutler, who posted a 119.2 passer rating.

Cutler began to heat up in the second quarter. Wideout Brandon Marshall helped him out with a ridiculous, one-handed 17-yard touchdown catch right before halftime, and Cutler was consistently brilliant in the second half, throwing just one incompletion.

He's up to six touchdown passes entering Week 3 at the Jets on Monday Night Football.

Report: Bears to part ways with Jordan Palmer
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(8/24/14) The Bears will release quarterback Jordan Palmer, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter on Sunday. Palmer lost the backup job to Jimmy Clausen in the preseason. He passed for 225 yards while completing 21 of 30 attempts, with one touchdown and one interception.
Jay Cutler picked off once in dress rehearsal game
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(8/23/14) Bears quarterback Jay Cutler endured a shaky performance Friday night against the Seahawks in exhibition play.

Cutler was held out of the end zone and his last pass of the night resulted in an interception by Jeremy Lane late in the second quarter. He was sacked twice and compiled 157 yards through the air while completing 12 of 20 passes. He finished the game with a 64.0 passer rating.
Jay Cutler 'much quicker with his reads' in Year 2
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(8/13/14) Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, in Year 2 of coach Marc Trestman's offense, "looks like a quarterback who has done this before," reports the Chicago Sun-Times.

"He’s getting better," Trestman said. "He understands what we’re doing. The dialogue is fast. We understand what we need to get done. Our communication is very, very good. It’s a blast to work with him on and off the field."

Offensive coordinator Aaron Kromer offered more detail on Cutler's improvement.

"Jay has learned to solve his own problems on the field," Kromer said. "He’s much quicker this year with his reads. He knew them last year — don’t get me wrong — but it’s happening even faster for him.

"He’s understanding everything he’s seeing. He’s seeing the defensive line. He’s making the calls of who we want to Mike [identifying the middle linebacker]. He’s directing everything and then getting us in the correct call if we give him more than one play. It’s just happening at a faster pace, and that’s going to help our offense."
Jimmy Clausen to play ahead of Jordan Palmer on Thursday
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(8/12/14) Bears coach Marc Trestman said quarterback Jimmy Clausen will relieve Jay Cutler in Thursday's preseason game against the Jaguars, with Jordan Palmer playing third. Clausen and Palmer are fighting for the backup job.

Clausen hit 7 of 13 throws for 150 yards and two touchdowns in the preseason opener, while Palmer went 8 for 11 for 104 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
