Tony Romo unsure if he'll play in preseason opener
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(7/31/14) Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo will play during the preseason at some point, but it might not be in the Aug. 7 opener against San Diego. He's seven months removed from back surgery.

"I want to make sure it’s progressing and continuing to go forward," Romo told the Dallas Morning News. :They’re going to try and have me sit out more than I want to. But that’s also because they’re smart and they know what they’re doing."

Romo practiced Wednesday and declared himself 100 percent, the paper said. The team has held him out of multiple practices.

"You just want to take every rep and do everything," Romo said. "And you feel good. And you’re like, ‘I feel good. Let’s go.’ But at the same time you feel good until you don’t. There’s not a lot of history doing this over and over and over again. It’s a little different than most injuries because we don’t have 10 other guys who have gone through this in the last three years. We’ve just kind of got to be real smart. We’ve just got to be smart with it."

Jerry Jones: Tony Romo is '100 percent' healthy
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(7/30/14) Although the Cowboys held Tony Romo out of Tuesday's practice, owner Jerry Jones said the team is just being smart with the quarterback's comeback from back surgery.

"He is 100 percent. He's 100 percent," Jones told reporters, per NFL.com. "He's just being real smart and sensitive about having come off the back surgery. He's certainly not losing any ground from the standpoint of opening up against San Francisco (in Week 1)."

Cowboys change course, hold out Tony Romo
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(7/29/14) After Cowboys officials said quarterback Tony Romo would practice Tuesday, they changed course and held him out, reports the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Coach Jason Garrett said Romo is fine.

Coming off back surgery, Romo practiced Thursday, was off Friday, then practiced Saturday and Sunday. The entire team was off Monday.

Tony Romo to practice Tuesday
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(7/29/14) Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo will practice Tuesday after all the players were off Monday, reports the Dallas Morning News. Coming off back surgery, Romo participated in the first training camp practice last Thursday, then was given Friday off.

He took part in full-contact practices Saturday and Sunday.

Tony Romo has 'good velocity'
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(7/27/14) Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, in his first contact practice Saturday since undergoing back surgery, had "good velocity" and "good accuracy" on his throws, quarterbacks coach Wade Wilson told the Dallas Morning News.

"I thought he looked good," Wilson said. "He looked fresh. It wasn't bothering him at all."

Romo didn't throw a lot of deep balls and "was never really in a position where he had to torque or twist his back to get off a throw," the paper noted.
