Tony Romo's back passes first test
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(8/17/14) Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo said he wasn't thinking about his surgically-repaired back during his preseason debut against the Ravens. It was his first game action since last December.

"I think when you play, if you’re thinking about those things, you’re doing your team a disservice," Romo told the Dallas Morning News. "I got a lot of other things that I have to do to make sure that we’re running the offense smoothly and efficiently and I think that’s what needs to be in your brain.

"If you’re not healthy, you shouldn’t play."

Romo said his back felt good and that he will "continue to get stronger." He's unsure how much he'll play Saturday in the third preseason game against Miami. Against Baltimore, Romo was on the field for the first 14 offensive plays.

Tony Romo could play a couple series Saturday
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(8/12/14) Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo will make his preseason debut Saturday against the Ravens, owner Jerry Jones told 105.3 The Fan. "I don't see him in there for a half or anything like that," Jones said, "but I do think he can take a couple of series."

Coming back from December back surgery, Romo reportedly had a good weekend of practice.

Brandon Weeden gets the start, finds end zone in opener
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(8/8/14) With Tony Romo sidelined, Cowboys backup quarterback Brandon Weeden got the start for Thursday's preseason opener against the Chargers.

Weeden played the first half of the game and hooked up with James Hanna for a 4-yard touchdown in the second quarter. He completed 13 of 17 passes for 107 yards ad a touchdown. He also had one run for a gain of 10 yards.

Weeden will likely be relegated to backup duties, as Romo is expected to return for the second preseason game, Aug. 16 against Baltimore.
Brandon Weeden could play entire first half
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(8/6/14) Cowboys quarterback Brandon Weeden will start Thursday's game against the Chargers and play as much as a half, reports the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Tony Romo is sitting out as the team manages his comeback from back surgery.

"It’ll be good to be out there with those guys," Weeden said. “We’ve got some great offensive weapons. I’m excited to be able to go out and compete with those guys. It’s the first time with the star on my helmet, and it feels good. It’s very exciting."

Signed in the offseason, Weeden will back up Romo. Caleb Hanie and Dustin Vaughn are the quarterbacks behind Weeden.

"He just needs to play," Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said of Weeden. "If you know his biography, his time he spent in baseball, a two-year stint at Oklahoma State and playing in a couple of different systems in Cleveland.

"He just needs to takes snaps. He has a lot of natural ability. You can see that. He is really good throwing the football. He can throw any kind of ball you want him to throw. He just needs to take snaps, and to see him grow when he gets an opportunity to take snaps, make mistakes, make plays and learn from it all."
Tony Romo won't play in preseason opener or finale
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(8/3/14) Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo won't play Thursday at San Diego in the preseason opener, or in the preseason finale Aug. 28 against Denver, reports the Dallas Morning News. Romo is coming off back surgery and the team is managing his reps.

He's expected to get limited work in Sunday's scrimmage. Team officials say Romo is fine and that they're just being cautious, the paper said.
