Peyton Manning leaves practice to get treatment on thigh

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(12/18/14) Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning stretched with the team Thursday, then left practice to get treatment on his injured thigh, reports the Denver Post. Manning had to leave the Week 15 win at San Diego due to the thigh injury but returned quickly and finished the game.

The paper said Manning went in for "normal treatment" and did not suffer a setback. "No reason for concern yet," the paper said, adding Manning is expected to practice Friday. ESPN.com called Manning's absence a "planned rest day."

Manning gets an extra day to prepare for Week 16 as Denver visits Cincinnati on Monday night. He has one touchdown pass over his past two games.

The Broncos are laying 3 or 3.5 points at Vegas sportsbooks.

Peyton Manning still too good to sit

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(12/8/14) While one week was an aberration, just his second game with less than 200 passing yards in three seasons with the Broncos, two in a row is a trend and legitimate reason for concern over Peyton Manning in Fantasy, especially since he was even less productive in that second game than the first, his streak of 51 straight games with a touchdown pass coming to an end.

Since their embarrassing loss Week 11 at St. Louis, the Broncos have endeavored to become more of a running team, and it's having an impact on Manning's numbers. Of course, their last two opponents have made it easy for them. The Bills scored a couple touchdowns late to make the final score close, but Week 14 was basically a runaway. The Dolphins, who the Broncos faced in Week 12, immediately after their loss to the Rams, put up more of a fight, and lo and behold, Manning had four touchdown passes in that game.

It's possible the Broncos run over every team from here and out, allowing them to keep Manning in their back pocket -- and I'd certainly expect that from them Week 17 against Oakland -- but it's more likely they'll face stiff competition from the Chargers and Bengals the next two weeks, two teams with legitimate playoff aspirations, and have to pass more than they have the last two weeks, especially now that breakout running back C.J. Anderson is contending with an ankle injury.

And with the weapons Manning has at his disposal, he doesn't need to throw 50 times to put up big numbers.

Peyton Manning's 51-game touchdown streak ends Week 14

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(12/7/14) Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning saw his 51-game streak with a touchdown pass end in Sunday's 24-17 win over Buffalo. Manning completed 14 of 20 passes for 173 yards, all season lows.

He threw two interceptions for the fifth time this season and posted a 56.9 passer rating, his lowest in six years.

The Broncos are emphasizing the run lately, and Manning's numbers are suffering. But his team is 10-3, a half-game ahead of New England for the AFC's top seed.

Manning visit the Chargers in Week 15.

Peyton Manning a victim of the game plan

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(12/1/14) Going against a defense that ranks first against the pass and 30th against the run and having recently gotten to know the talents of C.J. Anderson, the Broncos took the path of least resistance Week 13 at Kansas City, putting the ball in Anderson's hands rather than quarterback Peyton Manning's en route to a 29-16 victory.

Manning still had two touchdown passes (including one to Anderson) but only 179 yards, his second-fewest since joining the Broncos in 2012 and just his fourth game with fewer than 200 passing yards since the start of 2010.

Anderson, meanwhile, ran for 168 yards on 32 carries, giving him two straight games with at least 160 rushing yards. The Broncos never relied so heavily on the running game when Montee Ball or Ronnie Hillman was leading it, but considering the result, you can't really blame them for doing so in this one.

The Broncos host the Bills in Week 14, who rank fifth against the pass but only seventh against the run, so presumably, they'll revert to a more balanced approach in that one. Because Manning is the type of player who transcends matchups anyway, you shouldn't pay a second thought to sitting him in Fantasy.

Broncos QB Manning has rare dud in St. Louis

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11/16/14) Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning has enjoyed many memorable games in his brilliant career, but his performance Sunday in St. Louis wasn't one of them.

It's not often a quarterback leads his team to just seven points and still throws for 389 yards, but Manning did just that in Week 11. He completed 34 of 54 passes and just one touchdown - a 42-yard strike to a wide-open Emmanuel Sanders late in the second quarter. The Broncos were shut out in the second half for the first time since 2009.

Manning, who did exceed 3,000 yards on the year for the 16th time, also threw two interceptions and was uncharacteristically inaccurate on several throws. He will try to regroup next Sunday when the team returns home to face Miami.
