Broncos dispute that Peyton Manning played through torn quad

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(1/12/15) The Broncos are disputing an ESPN report that quarterback Peyton Manning played with a torn right quad for the final month of the season.

Two sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that Manning tore his quad late in the first half of a Dec. 14 win against the Chargers and that an MRI confirmed the tear.

But the Broncos say Manning "played with a strain, not a full tear," according to the Denver Post. Coach John Fox and general manager John Elway will address the issue at a news conference this week.

Over the team's last four regular-season games and Sunday's playoff loss to the Colts, Manning accounted for four touchdowns and eight turnovers.

Manning was non-committal on playing in 2015 when asked about his future Sunday night.

"I can't answer every what-if circumstance," he told 850 KOA. "What if you're not as healthy? What if certain coaches leave? I can't answer every what-if situation. I think I'll have to take some time to see how I feel, see how I feel physically."

The team listed Manning with a thigh injury late in the season, but it was not described as a tear until Monday's report.

Peyton Manning not ready to commit to 2015 season

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(1/11/15) After suffering his 13th playoff loss, Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning wasn't ready to commit to returning in 2015 for his 17th season.

"My mindset right now is just disappointment after today's game. I kind of need to process this game, and we'll meet tomorrow," Manning told reporters after Denver lost 24-13 at home to the Colts.

"I can't give that simple answer," he said when pressed further.

Before the playoffs, the 38-year-old indicated he'd return.

But in a postgame interview with 850 KOA, Manning said a lot of factors are in play.

"I can't answer every what-if circumstance," he said. "What if you're not as healthy? What if certain coaches leave? I can't answer every what-if situation. I think I'll have to take some time to see how I feel, see how I feel physically."

Manning averaged 4.6 yards per attempt against Indy as he was unable to connect deep with Emmanuel Sanders and Demaryius Thomas. Manning completed 26 of 46 passes for 211 yards and a touchdown and lost a fumble.

Manning has two years left on his contract. He has a non-guaranteed salary of $19 million for next season.

Broncos' Peyton Manning doesn't throw a touchdown Week 17

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(12/28/14) Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning did not throw a touchdown Week 17 against the Raiders.

Manning completed 21 of 37 passes for 273 yards. He did not throw any touchdowns or interceptions during the contest. Manning did turn the ball over once, losing a fumble in the first quarter. Manning seemed to struggle a bit early, but settled in as the game went on. He came into the contest with a thigh injury, and the team may have been more willing to run the ball in order to keep Manning healthy.

The Broncos have a bye next week.

Does Peyton Manning have a road problem?

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(12/23/14) That Peyton Manning hasn't quite been the same player this season as a year ago isn't something you need to here from us. Manning lapped the field in 2013, posting 89 more Fantasy points than the second-best quarterback; this year, he has fallen to third place, and is on pace to finish more than 100 points behind his total from a year ago.

Manning has still be mostly terrific on the Broncos' home field, averaging 28.1 Fantasy points per game in seven home contests, but has completely fallen apart of late away from Sports Authority Field. After Monday's four-interception, 16-Fantasy-point effort, Manning is averaging just 16.3 Fantasy points in his last four road games, compared to 28.8 in his first four of the season.

Manning was actually slightly better on the road in 2013, where he finished with 266 Fantasy points to 250 on the road. However, there was a 62-point gap in favor of his home numbers in 2012, so there is a pattern forming here. It has become more exaggerated in the second half of this season, but Manning's history in Denver suggests there is something to do the idea that he's a bit worse on the road, overall.

Manning was bound to regress from his unbelievable production a year ago, and injuries to his receiving corps certainly haven't helped. However, he's looked positively mortal for most of the second half of this season, and at 39 at the start of next season, you have to wonder whether he should be viewed as an unquestioned top-three Fantasy quarterback at this point.

Peyton Manning leaves practice to get treatment on thigh

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(12/18/14) Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning stretched with the team Thursday, then left practice to get treatment on his injured thigh, reports the Denver Post. Manning had to leave the Week 15 win at San Diego due to the thigh injury but returned quickly and finished the game.

The paper said Manning went in for "normal treatment" and did not suffer a setback. "No reason for concern yet," the paper said, adding Manning is expected to practice Friday. ESPN.com called Manning's absence a "planned rest day."

Manning gets an extra day to prepare for Week 16 as Denver visits Cincinnati on Monday night. He has one touchdown pass over his past two games.

The Broncos are laying 3 or 3.5 points at Vegas sportsbooks.
