Alex Smith fades in loss to former team

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(10/5/14) Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith started strong against his former team, the 49ers, completing 12 of 19 throws for 117 yards and a touchdown in the first half. But things unraveled for Smith after halftime.

With a chance to lead a game-winning touchdown drive, Smith overthrew tight end Anthony Fasano and was picked off by Perrish Cox with two minutes left. Smith finished 17 of 31 for 175 yards and two touchdowns with the interception. He added a 6-yard run.

Smith has thrown nine touchdowns against four interceptions entering the team's Week 6 bye.

Alex Smith's production linked to Jamaal Charles'

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(9/30/14) Even with star running back Jamaal Charles on the mend (though he looked good in his return Monday night), the Chiefs offense has picked it up the last two weeks with back-to-back 30-point outbursts -- and surprisingly, against two defenses that currently rank in the top 10, Miami and New England.

Quarterback Alex Smith has been either one of the beneficiaries or one the facilitators of the turnaround, throwing three touchdown passes in back-to-back games. It's reminiscent of last season, when he had nine games with multiple touchdown passes in leading the Chiefs to an 11-5 record. Of course, he had zero touchdown passes in the other seven games.

Back in the fold, Charles figures to take the leading role in the Chiefs offense and did so in Week 4, scoring three of their five touchdowns. It's just that two happened to come through the air, benefiting Smith as well.

That's part of Charles' game, catching the ball, so it's not the last time we'll see Smith benefit from his ability. But you'd think more often than not, his scores will come on the ground.

It all adds up to Smith being little more than a bye-week replacement in Fantasy. He'll have some big games like the last two weeks just because the Chiefs have the ability to score, but the presence of Charles will make him boom-or-bust every time out.

Alex Smith nearly flawless on MNF

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(9/29/14) Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith dissected the Patriots for 248 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions in a 41-14 home rout Monday. Smith completed 20 of 26 throws (77 percent) and added 8 yards on four carries.

In his last two Monday night games, Smith is 38 of 45 for 480 yards and six touchdowns with no interceptions.

Smith threw a pair of short touchowns to running back Jamaal Charles and also found tight end Travis Kelce for a 2-yard score. Smith has been on fire the past two weeks, accounting for six touchdowns. He'll visit the 49ers on Sunday.

Alex Smith throws three touchdowns in comfortable win over Miami

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(9/21/14) Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith found the end zone three times in a Week 3 win over the Dolphins in Miami on Sunday.

Smith hooked up with Travis Kelce for a 20-yards score in the second quarter. In the second half, he found Joe McKnight for scored of 11 and 4 yards. Smith did just enough to manage the game for the Chiefs, completing 19 of 25 passes for 186 yards, with three touchdowns and no interceptions in a 34-15 victory.

Through three weeks, Smith has compiled 643 passing yards to go along with a 4-to-3 touchdown-to-interception ratio. He will look to build off this performance heading into a Week 5 Monday night matchup at home against New England.

Alex Smith can't find the end zone Week 2

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(9/14/14) Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith couldn't find the end zone Week 2 against the Broncos.

Smith completed 26 of 42 passes for 255 yards. He averaged just 6.1 yards per attempt. As a result, running back Knile Davis led the team with six receptions. Smith did attempt to lead a game-winning drive, even getting his team down to the 2 yard line. With the game on the line, Smith couldn't complete a fourth down pass. The ball was tipped at the line and deflected, ending the comeback attempt. Smith also had 42 rushing yards.

Smith will take on the Dolphins Week 3.
