Giants GM wants Eli Manning, offense 'to be more aggressive'

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10/27/14) The Giants head into Week 9 even in turnover differential and quarterback Eli Manning has thrown just five interceptions, including none in his last three games. Though, general manager Jerry Reese indicated he would like to see the offense take a few more chances following a 3-4 start.

"As an offense, we need to be more aggressive. I think at times, we're a little bit almost too cautious what we do offensively," Reese said, per NJ.com. "You know, this is the National Football League. You have to go out there, man, you have to win the game. You can't think something is going to fall in your lap. You have to go out and take the games. I think we have to be more aggressive offensively.

"I appreciate Eli taking care of the ball and not turning it over. Of course, that correlates to wins a lot of the time. But you can't be too cautious. You have to throw the ball downfield and you have to score points in this game to win."

An encouraging performance for Eli Manning

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(10/20/14) Playing his first game without star wide receiver Victor Cruz, who's out for the season with a torn patella tendon, Giants quarterback Eli Manning still managed to bounce back from arguably his worst game of the season with one of his best Week 7 at Dallas, completing 21 of 33 passes for 248 yards and three touchdowns.

It was his fifth game in six with multiple touchdown passes and his second with at least three. And he did it against a defense that had generally kept quarterbacks out of the end zone, recording nearly as many interceptions (seven) as it had allowed touchdown passes (eight) prior to Week 7.

Though two of his touchdown passes went to rookie wide receiver Odell Beckham, who wasn't even available to him the first four weeks, Manning did a nice job of spreading the ball around. None of the touchdowns went to his two leading receivers, Larry Donnell and Rueben Randle.

Judging by this performance, Manning knows how to make use of the weapons the Giants have and doesn't need Cruz to remain successful in Fantasy. His bad games can be really bad, but his good games have been frequent enough for you to give him another shot when he returns from a bye Week 9 against Indianapolis.

Giants' Eli Manning tosses three scores Week 7

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(10/19/14) Giants quarterback Eli Manning tossed three touchdowns Week 7 against the Cowboys.

Manning completed 21 of 33 attempts, gaining 248 yards. He threw three touchdowns, and did not turn the ball over. Manning was able to find success against a Cowboys' defense that shut down the Seahawks Week 6. He was consistently able to throw from a clean pocket, and did not take a sack. Manning averaged a solid 7.5 yards per completion during the contest. Odell Beckham Jr. wound up being Manning's go-to target in the red zone, hauling in two scores during the game.

The Giants are on a bye Week 8.

Wait to see how Eli Manning adapts

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(10/16/14) Though Giants quarterback Eli Manning was a mess from the beginning Week 6 at Philadelphia, losing top wide receiver Victor Cruz in the third quarter probably didn't help. Cruz suffered a season-ending injury, so Manning will have to find a way without him. And given his track record of extreme highs and lows, it's dangerous to assume he will right away.

He has other weapons, of course. Rueben Randle has actually been the Giants' most-targeted receiver this year, ahead of even Cruz, and Odell Beckham is a first-rounder who missed the first four weeks with a hamstring injury. Tight end Larry Donnell has had some big games as well, though he hasn't been involved as much recently.

It's just that with quarterback being as deep as it is, you really don't need to gamble on Manning until we see how he adjusts. It's not like his matchup Week 7 at Dallas is so great. The Cowboys rank a modest 12th against the pass, but because of all their interceptions, they've allowed the fourth-fewest Fantasy points per game to quarterbacks.

Manning was off to a nice start this season and may prove he's just as effective without Cruz as with him. But you want to let him actually prove it.

Eli Manning roughed up in shutout loss

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(10/12/14) The Giants could not run the ball Sunday night, and they couldn't protect Eli Manning either. Manning took six sacks and failed to lead a scoring drive in the 27-0 loss at Philadelphia.

Manning completed 13 of 23 throws for a season-low 151 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions. It was a major step back for Manning, who had thrown for eight touchdowns and run for another in the three previous games.

Manning will try to bounce back Week 7 at streaking Dallas.
