Jets QB Geno Smith's comeback bid foiled by blocked FG
|by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com|
|(10/17/14) Jets quarterback Geno Smith worked past a minor injury scare and put together a turnover-free performance, but it wasn't enough in Week 7 defeat to the Patriots in Foxboro.
Smith took a brutal shot to the knee from Chris Jones and was on the on the floor momentarily before jogging off the field. Michael Vick took over for one play before Smith returned to action early in the fourth quarter. He told reporters after the game he won't need a follow-up MRI exam on his knee, per Newsday.
Down only eight points, Smith bounced back with 10-yard touchdown strike to Jeff Cumberland. He was unable to hook up with his other tight end, Jace Amaro, for the game-tying two-point conversion with 2:31 remaining in the game. Down only two points, he got another chance and orchestrated an 8-play, 48-yard drive which led to a blocked 58-yard field goal as time expired.
Smith compiled 226 yards through the air, 153 of which came in the second half. He completed 20 of 34 pass attempts, adding one touchdown and no interceptions. He was sacked three times and rushed for 37 yards on seven carries in a 27-25 defeat. He has thrown for 1,365 yards with seven touchdowns and seven interceptions this season.
Smith will look to get his team back on track Week 8 at home against the Bills.

Jets' Ryan: Geno Smith is 'the best way to go right now'
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
|(10/13/14) Following another disappointing loss Sunday against the Broncos, Jets coach Rex Ryan said quarterback Geno Smith would start again Thursday against the Patriots. On Monday, Ryan had to once again quiet the talk about Michael Vick taking over as the starting quarterback.
"Obviously, you can look at Mike to add different things," Ryan said, per NJ.com. "But I think Geno's the best way to go right now. That's why I'm comfortable saying he'll be our starter."
The Jets are 1-5 to begin the season and are dead last in passing offense, averaging 182.2 passing yards per game. Smith has thrown more interceptions (seven) than touchdowns (six) through six games.
Jets QB Geno Smith can't keep up with competition Sunday

|(10/12/14) Jets quarterback Geno Smith threw two touchdown passes Sunday, but the time elapsed between them prevented him from keeping up with Denver counterpart Peyton Manning in another defeat.
Smith tossed a 2-yard touchdown pass to breakout tight end Jace Amaro with four minutes left in the first quarter to give his team its only lead of the game and added another 2-yard scoring strike midway through the fourth.
He started strong by hitting eight of his first nine passes, but finished the half just 11 of 18 for 88 yards. He finished 23 of 43 for 190 yards, two scores and a pick-six with 15 seconds remaining in the game that clinched defeat.
Smith and his team won't have much time to recover. They play at New England on Thursday night.
Michael Vick no savior in Fantasy
|by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer|
|(10/6/14) Jets coach Rex Ryan has already confirmed that despite being removed midway through Week 5 at San Diego, Geno Smith will remain the team's starting quarterback. And after the way Michael Vick performed in his place, Fantasy owners should have no gripe with that.
Which isn't to say Smith is some kind of game-changer or has the potential to be one, but Vick was dreadful, completing 8 of 19 passes for 47 yards. The Jets didn't give him much leeway to scramble either if his two carries for 14 yards are any indication.
As recently as last year, before losing his job to Nick Foles, Vick has given Fantasy owners something to get excited about, but his first extended look in a Jets uniform was the furthest thing from that.
If you're hurting at quarterback and don't like you see on the waiver wire, don't hold your breath for him.
