|Nick Foles a fine Fantasy play against Lions |
|by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com|
(12/4/13) Fantasy owners of Eagles quarterback Nick Foles should not only thank Nick Foles for the production of Nick Foles. They should also thank a 32nd-ranked Philadelphia pass defense that forces Foles to try to keep up by throwing the ball.
Not that Foles hasn't risen to the occasion. The Eagles are 5-2 since he was moved into the starting lineup. He has completed 124 of 196 passes for 1,791 yards, 19 touchdowns and - get this - zero interceptions. He has even added 145 yards and two scores on the ground.
More encouraging this week is that he is playing at home against pass-happy Detroit and a high-scoring game should result. The Lions rank 26th in the NFL in passing yards allowed (3,147) and 19th in touchdowns yielded through the air (21).
Foles is so torrid that a statistical correction could happen any week. But the combination of an explosive Lions pass offense against a terrible Eagles pass defense makes it unlikely that Foles won't put up big numbers on Sunday. The three CBSSports.com senior Fantasy writers all rank Foles in the top six among NFL quarterbacks in Week 14. Sounds about right - he should be active in all formats.
|Nick Foles has three touchdowns in win |
|by Nando Di Fino | Senior Fantasy Writer|
(12/1/13) Eagles quarterback Nick Foles completed 21-of-34 passes for 237 yards and three touchdowns in Sunday's 24-21 win over the Cardinals. It was the third time in his last four games with three or more touchdowns.
Foles, who also ran nine times for 22 yards, avoided throwing his first interception this season in close fashion; a fourth quarter pass was picked off by Patrick Peterson, but called back on a Cardinals penalty. Otherwise, Foles looked efficient throughout the game, throwing deep on occasion and being the same quarterback he was before the bye.
Foles and the Eagles face the Lions in Week 14.
|Nick Foles is a sneaky source of rushing yards |
|by Nando Di Fino | Senior Fantasy Writer|
(11/27/13) Eagles quarterback Nick Foles went into the team's bye week with his star slightly fading. After his crazy Week 9, seven-touchdown performance, Foles put together a solid game against Green Bay (three touchdowns and 228 yards) and then failed to throw a touchdown pass (while running for one) in a 298-yard performance in Week 11.
It's not that Foles has struggled -- he has yet to throw an interception this season while being an underrated source of rushing yards (20 or more in three of his last four games). But it doesn't hurt to look at the diminishing returns, especially with a matchup against Arizona this Sunday. The Cardinals have allowed opposing quarterbacks to reach the 20-point mark just once in the last four games, allowing a total of six touchdowns in that span. However, the quarterbacks they limited were Matt Ryan (without Julio Jones or Roddy White), Chad Henne (with a limited Cecil Shorts), and Andrew Luck (without Reggie Wayne). The Eagles are at full force and will be rested coming off a bye.
Foles is a solid start for Week 13, but if there are slam-dunk options available (the Drew Brees/Tony Romo types), this matchup isn't favorable enough to push him into "stud" territory.
|Michael Vick relegated to backup role |
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
(11/26/13) Eagles quarterback Michael Vick has recovered from a hamstring injury that has kept him out the last three games, but coach Chip Kelly announced Tuesday he's been relegated to a backup role. Kelly named Nick Foles the starting quarterback for the rest of the season Tuesday.
|Eagles quarterback Michael Vick's career isn't over yet, but being the starter in 2013 is far from guaranteed. He has to compete for the starting job with Nick Foles and possibly rookie Matt Barkley, but we expect Vick to win the job. After being a star in 2010 he has faltered the past two years, and he has to rebuild his on-field reputation again in a new system for coach Chip Kelly. On the surface, Kelly's up-tempo offense suits Vick's style of play, but we have to find out if the two can mesh. Vick also has to deal with the loss of Jeremy Maclin (ACL) and hope DeSean Jackson can return to form. But Vick's problems remain the same: he's injury prone and prone to mistakes. If he starts 16 games we can still see him posting quality stats, but that's no guarantee since he hasn't finished a full season since 2006. He enters this season as a No. 2 Fantasy quarterback, and he's worth drafting with a late-round pick. If you have reasonable expectations for Vick then he'll be a good selection on Draft Day. But if you go in expecting Vick to play like 2010 again then you can expect to be disappointed because it's unlikely that quarterback will ever be seen again. (Updated 7/28/13) |
