Chip Kelly: Mark Sanchez signing a 'no-brainer'
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(3/30/14) Eagles coach Chip Kelly said he's excited about the addition of quarterback Mark Sanchez, who's expected to back up Nick Foles.

"I've said many times that we will always look to add quality players at the quarterback position," Kelly said. ""We consider it a key position in this game, so having the chance to add Mark to that group was a no-brainer for us.

"Mark has started 68 games in his career and has taken his teams deep into the playoffs multiple times, so we really like what he brings to the table from an experience standpoint. I also had the chance to see Mark play in college and have always had respect for his game and athletic ability."

Nick Foles will miss DeSean Jackson
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(3/28/14) Eagles quarterback Nick Foles lost his favorite target when the team released DeSean Jackson. According to ESPN, Foles targeted Jackson more than any other receiver (70 times) last season and completed 71.4 percent of those passes to him.

In addition, quarterbacks throwing to Jackson posted a 124.4 passer rating last year -- highest of any wideout.

While Foles is losing Jackson, he'll get receiver Jeremy Maclin back from a knee injury.

Matt Barkley loses shot at backup job
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(3/27/14) Eagles quarterback Matt Barkley had a realistic shot at backing up Nick Foles -- until the team agreed to terms Thursday with Mark Sanchez. Now Barkley, a fourth-round pick out of USC last year, figures to compete with G.J. Kinne for the third-string job.

Barkley played in four games last year, completing 30 of 49 throws for 300 yards and no touchdowns. He tossed four interceptions and lost a fumble.

Chip Kelly has to-do list for Nick Foles
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(3/27/14) Eagles coach Chip Kelly said quarterback Nick Foles, who threw 27 touchdowns and two interceptions last season, has plenty of room for improvement, reports Philly.com.

"Now, it's the intricacies of it," Kelly said about Foles' development. "Exactly what is my footwork? How is my ballhandling? How can I do a better job when I don't have the ball, how can I do a better job faking? What can I do . . . to influence the coverage, how can I move the safety, because I really want to throw the post. Instead of just going, 'Hey, the safety's on the post, I gotta throw the checkdown.'

"That's the one thing about Nick that's so encouraging is, he always wants to get better. I think he improved as the season went along. A lot of times, you'll see some players kind of plateau, but I think he continued to improve."

Matt Barkley healthier entering Year 2
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(2/10/14) Eagles quarterback Matt Barkley had a shoulder injury that "bothered him more than he let on last summer, and he's healthy now," reports the Philadelphia Inquirer. While the Eagles remain high on their 2013 fourth-round pick, Barkley "needs a strong spring and summer for the team to believe he can be a trustworthy backup quarterback," the report said.

The paper expects Michael Vick to leave via free agency. Barkley threw four interceptions and no touchdowns in spot duty last year.
