Richardson ready to compete
by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(6/17/13) The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Rams running back Daryl Richardson is ready to compete for the starting job with Isaiah Pead and Zac Stacy. “I’m definitely working toward a bigger role," Richardson said. “I’m excited about getting a chance to show the coaching staff what I can do. I definitely feel like I can be the starter, but I guess that’s something that will be decided in training camp. We’re all friends, working to push each other and to make each other better, but we’re also all trying to be that No. 1 guy." Coach Jeff Fisher acknowledged that getting Richardson more involved, whether he starts or not, is a priority. “We have to get the ball to him in the passing game more than we did (in 2012)," Fisher said. “We were spreading it out, but we weren’t necessarily going to the backs as much as we would’ve liked. Any time we can get Daryl the ball in space, it’s going to put added pressure on the other team."
Schottenheimer: RB battle is open
by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(6/12/13) Rams offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer said Tuesday that the running back job is wide open as four guys compete. He added that whoever can pass protect will have a leg-up in getting reps. "Daryl (Richardson) and Isaiah (Pead), Zac Stacy is a guy that’s doing great. Terrance Ganaway’s a guy that we like," Schottenheimer said. "You need multiple backs in this league. We’re going to try to play to their strengths. With ‘Jack’ (Steven Jackson) last year, it was a little bit different. It was harder to do the committee because every time you took him out, you knew you were missing his leadership and his toughness. This year I think we've got nice pieces to try to blend in and differently attack people."
Richardson gets boost with suspension
by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer
(5/31/13) The outlook for Rams running back Daryl Richardson to be the starter in Week 1 got a little better Friday following the suspension for Isaiah Pead. He was suspended without pay for the first game of the 2013 regular season for violating the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse. Pead will be eligible to return to the active roster on Monday, Sept. 9 following the team’s Sept. 8 opener against the Cardinals. Pead is eligible to participate in all offseason and preseason practices and games. With Pead out for Week 1, this should allow either Richardson or Zac Stacy to start against the Cardinals.
Richardson a factor in pass game?
by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(3/21/13) Rams coach Jeff Fisher believes that Daryl Richardson will see more playing time in 2013 after seeing his reps diminish toward the second half of last season. Expecting a split with Isaiah Pead, Fisher believes Richardson could make contributions through the air. "We've got to get the ball to him in the passing game more so than we did (in 2012)," Fisher said to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "We were spreading it around, but we weren't necessarily going to the backs as much as we would've liked. It would be a great situation where that’s an extension of the run game, to get him out in space."
What's the future of Rams RBs?
by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
(2/27/13) With Steven Jackson expected to hit the free-agent market this offseason, attention has turned to the Rams' remaining running back corps. At the NFL combine Rams head coach Jeff Fisher and general manager Les Snead expressed optimism in both Isaiah Pead and Daryl Richardson. Fisher said both have the capability of being every-down backs, though he added Pead was the one they took because they thought he could be "the guy," according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
