|Kellen Clemens has little upside in Week 16 |
|by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer|
(12/20/13) Rams quarterback Kellen Clemens heads into Week 16 against Tampa Bay looking to build off a solid game against New Orleans.
Clemens had 18 Fantasy points against the Saints with 158 passing yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. It was his best game since Week 10 against the Colts when he scored 19 points, and that's about the extent of his upside.
The Rams just don't have the weapons in the passing game for Clemens to post huge stats, and they are clearly a run-first team with Zac Stacy. Even though the Buccaneers have allowed seven quarterbacks to score more than 20 Fantasy points this season, we don't recommend using Clemens even in two-quarterback leagues this week.
|Kellen Clemens throws for 158 and two scores in easy win |

(12/15/13) Rams quarterback Kellen Clemens didn't have to throw much in the second half Sunday against New Orleans because of what he accomplished in the first half.
What he accomplished was a 24-3 lead thanks to his 31-yard touchdown pass to Cory Harkey four minutes into the game and a 4-yard scoring strike to fellow tight end Lance Kendricks with 2:45 remaining in the first quarter. He completed seven of his first eight passes for 78 yards.
The rest was gravy - and Clemens sopped it up. He finished 14 of 20 for 158 yards, two scores and no interceptions for a fine 126.7 quarterback rating, outplaying Saints superstar Drew Brees along the way. He will try to maintain his momentum next Sunday at home against Tampa Bay.
|Kellen Clemens no Fantasy play against Saints |
|by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com|
(12/11/13) A matchup against a team with a prolific offense generally favors the opposing quarterback in Fantasy football. One might think that Rams signal-caller Kellen Clemens would thrive Sunday against New Orleans because he must throw to keep up with Drew Brees.
The numbers, however, dispute that contention. The Saints have been lights-out against the pass. They rank third in yards allowed through the air (2,591) and fifth in passing touchdowns surrendered (15). Opposing teams have generally opted to take advantage of their mediocre run defense and keep Brees off the field.
Clemens doesn't rate as a serviceable Fantasy quarterback in a favorable matchup, let alone the one that awaits him in Week 15. The Rams once again don't boast the receiving weapons to make any quarterback look good. And in six starts this season, he has yet to throw for more than 247 yards and has passed for two touchdowns just once. Clemens is averaging a mere 22 passes a game with five scores and five picks.
Bottom line? Don't even dream of sticking this guy in your Fantasy lineups. It is, after all, the playoffs.
|Kellen Clemens awful Week 14 against the Cardinals |
|by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com|
(12/8/13) Rams quarterback Kellen Clemens had a rough game Week 14 against the Cardinals.
Clemens couldn't get anything going through the air, passing for just 181 yards. He completed 16 of 27 passes, and threw two interceptions. Clemens' main target was tight end Jared Cook, who caught three passes for 49 yards. The Cardinals had given up 12 touchdowns to tight ends coming into the game, so Clemens had the right idea. Arizona put the pressure on Clemens, though, sacking him four times.
Clemens will look to bounce back Week 15 against the Saints.
|Kellen Clemens looking at slightly favorable matchup |
|by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com|
(12/6/13) Rams quarterback Kellen Clemens is looking at a slightly favorable matchup Week 14 against the Cardinals.
Arizona's defense has been fairly strong overall, but quarterbacks have had some success against them. The team has allowed 22 passing touchdowns in 12 games. Opposing quarterbacks have scored 19.17 Fantasy points per week against the Cardinals defense. The team has been susceptible to letting quarterbacks post strong games. Four quarterbacks have thrown for three touchdowns in a game against the Cardinals this season.
Clemens hasn't really shown that big play ability this season. In the five games he's started, Clemens has only thrown multiple touchdown passes once. He could be saved if he focuses more on Jared Cook. The Cardinals have been the worst team against the tight end this season, so Clemens will need to look his way often. That being the case, it's tough to trust Clemens as a Fantasy starter.
|For the first time in his career, Sam Bradford will finally have some semblance of continuity. That's because he'll have the same offensive coordinator and same offensive scheme for the first time under Brian Schottenheimer. Bradford went from Pat Shurmur and a West Coast scheme in 2010, to Josh McDaniels and more of a deep-passing approach in 2011, to Schottenheimer and something in-between in 2012. The good news is Bradford is coming off a career year last season with 3,702 yards, 21 touchdowns and 13 interceptions and 37 carries for 127 yards and one touchdown. The bad news is that despite those stats he was still just the No. 18 Fantasy quarterback in a standard league, and he managed just five games with at least 18 Fantasy points. This offseason, the Rams revamped their offense. Steven Jackson, Danny Amendola and Brandon Gibson are gone as free agents, and the Rams replaced them with free agent tight end Jared Cook and rookies Tavon Austin, Stedman Bailey and Zac Stacy. We'll find out if it was an upgrade or not, but Bradford is now the focal point on offense. He should be considered a No. 2 Fantasy quarterback with upside. He's not worth drafting in most leagues, but Bradford could emerge as a bye-week replacement if things go his way. (Updated 5/15/13) |
