Losing does wonders for Russell Wilson's numbers

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(10/19/14) Though it wasn't the case Week 6 against Dallas, when the Seahawks began what's now their first losing streak since 2012, quarterback Russell Wilson has thrived with the team's diminished dominance this season. Never was it more apparent than Week 7 at St. Louis, when a come-from-behind effort translated to a career high in total yards. He completed 23 of 36 passes for 313 yards and ran seven times for 106. It was his second 100-yard rushing effort in his last three games.

He also had three touchdowns -- two through the air and one on the ground -- giving him multiple scores in five of the team's six games this season. He had multiple scores in only eight of 16 games last season.

Though the Seahawks have done a fine job limiting yardage, they haven't been as dominant defensively as they were last season, and that's given them a greater need for offense late in games. Though they won't always be playing from behind against a defense that will allow them to make up ground, they may need to throw in the fourth quarter often enough for Wilson to keep this up.

He's a good choice to start again Week 8 at Carolina.

Bad Russell Wilson shows up again

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(10/13/14) Well, that wasn't supposed to happen.

Not after throwing for two touchdowns in each of his first four games, not against a defense that entered the day ranked 18th against the pass and certainly not at home, where he's been at his best since entering the league in 2012. But yes, Russell Wilson let down those Fantasy owners who had just begun to think they could rely on him on an every-week basis, turning in a stinker Week 6 against Dallas.

Wilson is no stranger to stinkers in Fantasy, but in the past, they've come when the Seahawks didn't need anything from him, whether because of their defense or running back Marshawn Lynch. But this time, he just didn't play well, completing half his passes for 126 yards and one interception.

So does this change our assessment of him in Fantasy? Well, maybe I did go a little far with the must-start talk. But I think the Seahawks will need to rely on Wilson more this year than in years past, and I still think that means he'll be more consistent overall. Don't lose faith.

Russell Wilson at his best in road game

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(10/7/14) Coming into the season, one common strategy for using Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson was to start him at home and sit him on the road. It's not that he's been bad on the road, but in an equal number of home and road games in his career, he has 10 more touchdown passes at home than on the road. For an inconsistent performer (at least in terms of Fantasy production), it just seemed like one way to improve the odds.

But then he goes and does what he did Week 5 at Washington, rushing for 122 yards and throwing for 201 with three combined touchdowns. It was by far his best performance of the season, and moreover, it came on the road.

In my latest post the Fantasy Football Today blog, I review some of Wilson's past road performances and wonder if we should be sitting him at all. Be sure to check it out.

Russell Wilson scores twice in Super Bowl rematch

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(9/21/14) Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson found the end zone twice and did just enough to manage an overtime victory over the Broncos at home in Week 3.

Wilson fired a 39-yard touchdown pass to Ricardo Lockette and found Marshawn Lynch for a 5-yard strike -- all in the second quarter. He was picked off by Chris Harris in the fourth quarter for his only blemish of the afternoon. He bounced back and led his team to a 13-play, 80-yard drive which resulted in a game-winning touchdown run from Lynch in overtime.

Wilson completed 24 of 34 passes for 258 yards, with two touchdowns and one interception. He was sacked three times. He rushed for 40 yards on nine carries.

Seattle is on a bye before returning to action in Week 5 at Washington.

Russell Wilson tosses two touchdowns in loss

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(9/14/14) Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson tossed two touchdown passes Week 2 against the Chargers.

Despite the fact that the Seahawks didn't possess the ball all that long, Wilson was able to get the team moving down the field. Wilson didn't strike until the end of the second quarter. With time running out, he found Robert Turbin on a 3 yard strike. Wilson did the same thing in the third, hitting Marshawn Lynch for the 14 yard score.

Wilson finished 17 of 25, for 202 yards and two scores. He also had 18 rushing yards during the contest. He'll take on the Broncos Week 3.
